Dedicated to women who changed the world.

Mary Jackson was born on April 9, 1921, in Hampton Virginia. She was a young girl who grew up loving mathematics and science in her small town home. She loved helping others no matter how big the problem!

She loved solving problems with math and science, so her goal was to become an engineer.
There are very few black engineers, but even fewer woman engineers and Mary wanted to beat the odds.

I can be whoever I want to be! No one is going to stop me!
Mary was determined to achieve her goal, but she grew up in a time where white people and black people were separated. This was called segregation. She didn’t receive the same amount of schooling that the white students had, but it didn’t stop her.

Mary was still interested and wanted to know more about math and science and she was especially curious about how things worked.

Mary exceled and graduated from Hampton Institute in 1942 with a degree in mathematics and physical science. She then accepted a career as a mathematics teacher where she enjoyed showing her love for math with her students.
