Luis Abinader, is the 54th President of the Dominican Republic. He was sworn into office on August 16, 2020, with his wife, Raquel, by his side.

The Dominican Republic is an Island in the Caribbean region surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea. The island is shared with the country of Haiti.
The capital of the Dominican Republic is coastal city of Santo Domingo.

The President was born in Santo Domingo, on July 12, 1967. He was 53 years old when he took office.
His father, José Rafael Abinader Wassaf was born
in the province of Santiago, in 1929.


His mother is, Rosa Sula Corona Caba. She is still living and took an active role in her son's political campaign. In Dominican culture it is not acceptable to talk about a woman's age.

President Abinader comes from a political family. His father was a prominent business leader and served as Vice President of the Dominican Republic.

His family experience with politics made him comfortable campaigning...even in the midst of the Global Covid-19 Pandemic.
The President's full name is:
Luis Rodolfo Abinader Corona
In the Spanish tradition children take two last names.
The first last name comes from the Father:
José Rafael Abinader Wassaf
The second last name comes from the Mother:
Rosa Sula Corona Caba

President Abinader's paternal grandfather was
José Abinader, a Lebanese immigrant from Lebanon, who arrived to the Dominican Republic in 1898.

President Abdinader has traveled to America many times. He attended the following schools in America.

Cambridge, Massachusetts

Hanover, New Hampshire
President Abinader, and his wife Raquel, have three daughters: Esther, Graciela, and Adriana.




The President contracted the Coronavirus in the summer of 2020. He has worked hard to get the Coronavirus vaccine to his country.

President Abinader is a very wealthy man.
His family owns many businesses including large hotels and resorts that are popular with Americans.
His political party is the:
Modern Revolutionary Party
He received 53% of the vote in the election.
The United States has been a close supporter of the Dominican Republic for many years.
President Abinader wants a close and respectful relationship with the USA.
He believes that he and his country need the same types of democratic freedoms enjoyed in the United States.
Over 2 million Dominicans live in the United States.
Over 2 hundred thousand Americans live in the Dominican Republic.
Almost 3 million Americans travel to the Dominican Republic each year.
The Dominican Republic imports almost
8 billion dollars of goods from the USA
each year.
Agriculture and Tourism are the two biggest businesses in the Dominican Republic.

The president's family are involved in both agriculture and tourism. The climate of the Dominican Republic offers great beaches, and a long growing season for agriculture.

The top exports that are grown in the
Dominican Republic are:
Coffee, cocoa, mangoes, coconuts, sugar, lemons and oranges. Exports of tomatoes and peppers have grown in recent years.

The President likes his coffee in the traditional Dominican way. Hot, Strong, and Sweet.
The President likes typical Dominican Food. Stewed chicken, pinto beans, friend plantains, and rice cooked Dominican style.
