La Llorona means “The Weeping Woman” which is a scary story part of the Mexican mythology, but this story has nothing to do with it. Rather, it a story in which family get together to have fun and enjoy each other with food and laugher.

One day, Mama Melissa told her daughters, “Tonight, we are going to grandpa’s Juan home. We are going to have dinner and play Loteria”. Everybody got exited!

“Is Derek going to be there? Asked Cali, “Yes Cali, Derek is going to be there”, replayed Mama Melissa. ”

“Is Steve going to be there” asked Alyssa, “yes Alyssa, Steve is going to be there”, replied Mama Melissa.

“Is Tia Diana going to be there?” asked Emilia, “yes Emi, Tia is going to be there”, replied Mama Melissa.

“Is Grandpa Juan cooking?” asked Lillie, “yes Lilies”, replied Mama Melissa. “Good, because I like his guacamole” Lillie said; and everybody laughed.

They all went to Grandpa Juan’s house. Grandpa Juan was there, Tia Diana was there, Tio Aaron was there, Steve was there, and Derek was there too.  “Dinner is ready” said Grandpa Juan, and everybody sat down to the table. Before starting dinner, Grandpa Juan said, “No electronics on the table please” and everybody put away all electronics.

Cali was so excited to play loteria, that she finish dinner first than anybody and said “I am Ready, let’s go and play Loteria”, “Hold your horses Cali girl, we have to wait until everybody finish dinner”  replied Mama Melissa, “OK mama, but hurry up please” said Cali.

After dinner, they all gathered at the leaving room. Grandpa Juan got the loteria cards and said “everybody get a Loteria Cardboard, and a bunch of beans. “La Botella”, said grandpa Juan, “La Campana”.. “El Nopal”.. “La Estrella”..  “La Bota”.. “La Escalera” he Continued.

“LOTERIA” Yelled Tia Diana. Cali was angry and disappointed because she didn’t win,  “We have to check all characters, to make sure you got them right” Said grandpa Juan. After checking all characters, he declared Tia Diana the winner, Cali grew more disappointed.

“El Sol”.. ”La Estrella”.. Grandpa Juan continued. “LOTERIA” Yelled tia Diana again. Tia Diana won 3 in a row and Alyssa and Steve also won once each.
