Hello! My name is Sam, and I am a climatologist, someone who studies the weather. Today I will be teaching you all about a natural disaster, tornadoes!

Tornadoes occur worldwide, anywhere. How do tornadoes form? Well, they form when warm, humid air runs into cold, dry air. When the warm air rises through the cold air and touches the ground, boom! A tornado is formed.

That's a lot of wind!

One thing us climatologists are working on is predicting tornadoes. The best we can do right now is look at large thunderstorms, which may lead to a tornado formation.
How big do you think a tornado can get? The biggest tornado ever was 219 miles long! That's like driving from delaware all the way to michigan. Tornadoes are measured using the Enhanced Fujita Scale. This scale allows us to rate a tornado from 0-5 based on the wind speeds and damage.
