The girl and her Dragon
The Adventure Of a lifetime
By Isabella Coughran
Chapter 1
What is That?
People say that dragons are a myth, not real. But I never believed them. I have always believed in dragons. I have read every book on them, and actually one of the books said they were real, just gone, rare. Ever since, I have believed in the dragon. I was just a farmer's daughter though. My village was not full of elves nor rich and wealthy people. It was just a village.
“Good morning.” I said to my parents. “Good morning.” they responded. I grabbed my bow and arrows. “Where are you going?” asked my mother. “Oh I am just gonna go explore.” I responded. I ran outside. It was still dark but nice out. I set my bow on my back and adventured into the forest. I breathed in the fresh morning air. I looked around. What a beautiful morning. I thought to myself. I grabbed my bow and locked an arrow in it. Then I aimed it for a tree. It hit the tree right in the center. “It looks like I am getting better at my archery.” I whispered. I walked over to the tree and pulled the arrow out. “It got pretty deep.” I said as I looked at the arrow.
Then all sudden I saw a faint glow at the corner of my eye. I turned around to see a light purple smooth stone or something like that. “What the…” I said as I cautiously approach the thing. I kneeled down and picked up the thing. Then I heard someone's voice. “Isabella! It's time for breakfast!” came my brother's voice. I quickly put the stone in my bag before my brother could find me. “Alright I am coming!” I said. I followed my brother to my house. I ran straight into my room and hid my bag. I ran downstairs to the table. I sat down next to my brother who was poking at his food. I ate as I set my gaze on the stairs. After breakfast I got up and went outside. The weird thing I found can wait.
I thought to myself. I walked around the city making my way to the cook. “Good afternoon Miss.” said the cook as she handed me some bread. “Thank you.” I said. I walked off. I finally arrived home. And set the bread on the table
I heard breathing behind me. A smile formed on my lips. I grabbed a stick. And turned around to see my brother. “Sneak attack!” he shouted. I blocked a hit. “Its on!” I shouted. He backed away a smile on his face.
“The Dragon Warrior vs Blue Shade!” he shouted. I ran up to him and we hit wood against wood. “Oh your going down!” said my brother. “Yeah right!” I said with an eye roll. We laughed as we sword fought with sticks.
After a while we stopped. Before it got dark I went outside. I breathed in the fresh air. I walked around through the field. And looked up at the sky to set my gaze on the stars. Then my mind came to that weird stone I found. It was still in my room. I ran inside the house to go and see it. I ran to the place I hid my bag. I looked around then carefully open it. The thing was glowing a faint blue. I pulled it out carefully and looked at it. The thing seemed to have a living thing in it. “I wonder what this thing is.” I whisper. Then the thing jolted. I threw it on the ground and backed away. It rocked back a forth on the floor. Then it cracked.
It rocked back a forth on the floor. Then it cracked. A little dragon came out of the thing which seemed to be an egg! The dragon was a dark blue color, her eyes big and purple. “What the…” I whispered.
Chapter 2
Errier
I got up and approached the dragon carefully. The dragon gave a little noise. The dragon came towards me carefully. I put out my hand and the dragon walked carefully over, her huge purple eyes on me. She set her forehead on my hand.
I smiled as the little dragon relaxed. “Well I guess we will be friends forever.” I said in a whisper. The dragon gave a little roar. “Shhh. You need to be quiet! Or mom and dad will find out!” I whisper.
I laughed as the dragon nuzzled me playfully.
Then I felt stinging in my wrist again. But it was glowing. “What is going on?” I asked as I looked down at my wrist. And got up and walked over to a wooden pale full of cold water. I set my hand in there. The stinging was gone. “Were you doing that?” I said to my dragon. Then I looked down at my wrist there was a small scar on it. “Well I hope it goes away soon.” I said. I picked up the blue dragon and carried her outside. I laughed as the dragon did little noises. I found myself on the field outside of the forest. The dragon played with some sticks. She chewed on them playfully.
“No one said dragons are real.” I whisper. The dragon growled at a stick before pouncing on it. I giggled. Then I heard thunder. I whipped my head around to see storm clouds. “I think we should get going.” I said to the dragon. I got up and started to walk. I turned around to still see the playful dragon still standing there with a small stick in her mouth. The clouds were getting closer. “Come On! Do you wanna get struck by lighting?" I said. But still she did not move. It began to rain. The thunder got louder and the lighting got closer.
Then all sudden lighting struck the dragon. My eyes were wide. I saw her grow. She was an adult! I ran over to her. “Hello Isabella.” said the dragon. “Hi.” I responded My eyes still wide. “I am Errier, your dragon.” she said. “Errier, That is a pretty name for a dragon.” I said. “Hop on! I would like to give you a ride.” said Errier. I got on. “Hold on tight. This will be a awesome flight.” said Errier. I held on. The dragon went to a cliff's edge. “Ready?” she asked. I nodded. She dived down. I laughed as she flew. “Enjoying yourself?” she asked. “Give me all you got Errier!” I said. “Alright! You asked for it!” said Errier. She went so fast. I laughed. “Hang on I don't want you to fly off!” said Errier.
She went closer to the cliff. I jumped off and ran along side her on the cliff. And then jumped. She caught me.
“I knew you would catch me!” I laughed. “I would always look after you.” said Errier. She did some flips and sharp turns. Then all sudden I fell off. “Errier!” I shouted I got caught by the blue dragon. “Did I say to hold on?” asked Errirer. I laughed. We landed on the ground. “Well I don't know where to put you where my parents can't find you.” I said. “I would just go into the forest.” said Errier. “Okay, well see you tomorrow.” I said. Errier walked off into the forest. After dinner I went to bed. I am happy that dragons are real. I thought to myself. Then I fell asleep.
Chapter 3
Attacked in the dead of night
I woke up suddenly to screams and panicked voices. I got up and ran out of my room. “Mom! Dad! Where are you!?" I shouted. The house was empty. Then I heard the door crack open. A goblin just came in the house its weapon out. With a grunt it ran towards me. I dogged the hit. “Errier!” I shouted. I knew that dragons can hear really well. Then I heard Errier's voice. “Isabella!” she grabbed the goblin with one paw and killed it. “Whats going on!?” I said to Errier. “Your in grave danger we need to get you out of here.” she told me.
I got on her back and she flew off. “Errier, I think we are being fallowed.” I said. “I will try to loose them. Hang on!" shouted Errier. She did some sharp turns and flips. “Are they still on my tail?” she asked. I looked behind me. “No, I think we lost them.” I said. We landed on a high mountain. “Errier, what is happening?” I asked her with tears in my eyes. “Evil is taking over, they took over the elves and men in countless places. They new that I a dragon is here, They never want us to win. So they will try to kill you to get to me.” said Errier. I turned around to see my village burning. “What are we going to do Errier?” I asked. “I don't know Isabella.” said Errier. I looked at my feet.
“I think we should set up camp.” suggested Errier. “Yeah, sure.” I said. I set down my pack. “Can you breathe fire?” I asked Errier. “No not yet. Right now I can breathe ice.” she reasoned. “Ok. I guess I will have to start the fire then.” I said. I began to try to start that fire.
After a few minutes the fire has not started. I got angry. "Ugh! I cannot get this stupid fire going!" I grunted in anger. “You can do this.” encouraged Errier. I grabbed the stick again but then the stick was on fire as soon as I touched it! “Errier! Did you see that!?” I asked amazed. Errier looked at the fire.
“When you got that scar, you got the power of the dragons.” She said.
"Long ago dragons were friends with elves and men, but when evil took over dragon's were not used as companions, there were used for war. The Evil King Dark-Shade used dragons for war. To take over the world. But tons of dragons died in the great war. And that is why people believed it was only a myth. Because so many dragons died and they were rare.
“His dark magic.” responded Errier. “Interesting.” I said.I said. “But Isabella I warn you. You need to be careful with the magic that has been given to you.” Said Erreir in my head. “Wait!? We can talk in each other's minds!?” I said in my head amazed. “Yes we can when ever we want to.”
Responded Errier. “That is so cool.” I said amazed. “I guess I would get some sleep then for wherever we are going.” I said as I set up my bed roll. “Okay, I will keep watch.” said Errier. “Goodnight Errier.” I whisper and then I fell asleep.
Chapter 4
Are you Friend or foe?
I woke up to birds chirping. “Good morning Isabella.” said Errier. “Good morning Errier.” I responded. Then all sudden we heard a rustle in the bushes. My eyes narrowed. Errier got up hearing the strange noise too.
“We are not alone Errier,” I said to my dragon in her mind. “Show yourself!” I shouted. A man with black hair and a bow on his back and a sword on his belt stepped out of the forest. “Are you friend or foe?” I asked. “I mean no harm.” he said. “I am here to help you.” He said. I looked up at Errier. “Do you think we can trust him?” I asked her in her head.
“I am not sure, but if you chose no or yes we can trust you, I am with you.” responded Errier. “What are you here for?” I asked him. “I am here to help you, to teach you how to sword fight and use your power.” he said. “What is your name?” I asked the man. “Goran.” he responded. “I think we can trust him Errier.” I said to Errier. “Alright. We trust you, but if you betrayed us or anything, your out of the group. Understand?” I said. “I won't let you down.” said Goran. He tied his horse near a tree as I packed up my stuff. “So where are we off to?” he asked. I jumped swiftly on my dragon. We are going to try to find out the Evil King Dark-Shade's plan. And Errier she knows the way there." I said. Goran hopped on his horse.
“I will fallow you.” he said. “Alright. Come on Errier! Lets go!" I said. Errier flew off. I saw Goran and his horse fallowing below us. I hang on as I looked around. “I am gonna do a turn hold on!” said Errier. I held on as she did a turn. Errier and I landed. Goran stopped. “Are we here or something?” asked Goran. “No, Errier needs a break from flying.” I responded as I pat her. “Alright but we need to get going soon I think I saw someone chasing us.” said Goran. I nodded. “Here.” Goran tossed me a sword. “Whats this for?” I asked. “Self defense your going to need it.” He said. “Thanks.” I responded. I unsheathed the sword and looked at it. “Thats a pretty sword, And a strong one too." I heard Errier say. I sheathed the sword.
Then I heard hoofs behind us. I stood up too see evil creatures on horses. “Uh Guys! Evil coming our way!” I pulled out my sword as a goblin got close.
It hit its sword on mine. I dogged and then stabbed it. But there was more coming. Goran also fought and Errier. I grabbed my bow and arrows. And shot an arrow blue flames came out of the tip of the arrow and shot most of the goblins. I stared at my bow wide eyed. “Isabella! Behind you!” shouted Errier. I moved out of the way and shot it with an arrow. I ducked before a sword can cut off my head and stabbed a goblin.
Then all sudden I felt a pain shoot through my body. I looked at my shoulder. A arrow pierced my shoulder. I fell back. A goblin hovered over me. Raising its blade. Then I saw a blade stick through its chest. The goblin fell dead. “Goran?” I looked up at him. “Go I will hold them off!” I ran over to Errier and hopped on. She flew off. Arrows came whistling past my head. I shot fire out of my hand to the goblins and held on to Errier.“We are gonna get you to Woodstock the eleven city. Hang on!” said Errier. I held on as she flew as fast as she can. “Errier, is an arrow supposed to hurt this bad.” I groan. “Its a poisonous arrow. We need to get you to Woodstock there the elves will help you!” said Errier urgently.
I clutched my arm as I tried to hang on to the dragon. After a few hours we made it to Woodstock. Errier landed and I got off weakly.
Some elves came up to me. “Come with us we will heal you.” said a woman as she lead me somewhere. I looked at Errier. “You will be alright,” said Errier in my head. I nodded.
Chapter 5
Woodstock
After a while my arm was fully healed. “Thank you.” I said to the healer. She smiled. “Your welcome.” she said. We began to walk around the eleven village.
“What is your name?” I asked her. "Esha Greenbark." She responded. “And of course I know your name. Your Isabella! The dragon rider. And warrior!” she said with excitement in her eyes. “You know my name? And that I had a dragon?” I asked as I raised an eye brow.“Every Elf in Woodstock knows! We sent Goran to your village but when it was attacked you left on your dragon,
so he followed you to complete his task to teach you magic and how to fight.” finished Esha.
“Wow. Everyone knows about me.” I said amazed. After a few minutes we found both Errier and Goran. “Hi Goran and Errier!” I said as I ran up to them. “Hi Isabella, How is your shoulder?” asked Errier. “Its doing better. All thanks to Esha.” I said happily. “She is a good healer in this city.” said Goran. “So what would be our plan?” I asked Errier. “We will be going to the evil solider's camp and try to find out what is going on.” said Errier “Alright I hope none of us get hurt like I did before.” I said. “After a few days when your arm is healed we will get going.” said Goran.
“And that means we will be doing some practice on your magic and sword skills.” said Goran. “Alright, I would like to learn some new magic and sword fighting skills." I said.
“Alright lets get to it.” said Goran. He grabbed two sticks. “I bet he is a bit dumb to not grab real swords.” I said to Errier in my head. “This is how he teaches, don't worry he will do it with swords.” Said Errier. “Alright ready to start?” asked Goran as he tossed me a stick. “I am ready.” Errier sat down as she watched us practice. I disarmed him. “Alright lets face it, your done with sword fighting practice.” said Goran.
“I have been sword fighting ever since I was five Goran.”
“Well your really good at it.” commented Goran. I smiled. “Ready to do some magic?” asked Goran. “Yes!” I said excitedly. “Alright. Put your hands like that." Goran demonstrated. I copied him. “Then say Ejecio!” said Goran. “Ejeico!” I said. Then lighting shot out of the palm of my hand. My eyes widen.
Then all sudden I felt my head have this horrible pain. I clutched my head and fell on to my knees. “Isabella? Are you alright?" asked Goran unsure. “Whats wrong with her Errier!?” asked Goran. Then everything went black.
I woke up in a bed. My head pain was gone. “What happen?” I said as I sat up. Esha was standing next to the bed. She then looked down at me. “You passed out. We are not sure what happen.” said Esha. “Well I had this strange head ache after I cast my power.” I said to Esha. “Strange.” She finally said. Then I heard Errier's voice in my head.
“Dark Shade is trying his very hardest to find you so he can kill you, but you fought it off when you cast that lighting spell.” said Errier. “Thats strange.” I said to her.
“Thanks again Esha, for your help.” I said to the elf. She nodded and walked off. I went over to where Errier was. “Hello Errier.” I said to her. “hello Isabella, are you doing alright?” asked Errier unsure. “Yeah I am okay.” I pat Errier on the head as I sat next to her. I looked up at the night sky. The stars were twinkling brightly in the dark sky. “Have you ever wonder about the stars Errier?” I asked. Errier looked up at the night sky too. “I have.” she said. “They give me hope when I feel down.” I said calmly. I closed my eyes calmly taking in the calm night. Errier also relaxed.
Chapter 6
Sneaking into Dark-Shade's camp
The next day was the day we leave. I packed up a backpack and left the room. I met Goran and Errier out side. “Well ready to go?” asked Goran. “Yeah!” I responded. I hopped onto Errier. Goran got on horse. “Are you gonna go on Errier?” I asked. “I rather not I am scared of heights.” said Goran. “Okay. Make sure you don't loose us though!” I said. Errier took off. “Oh how I missed flying! For two days straight no flying but now I can fly!” said Errier happily. I smiled.
After a hour it got a bit foggy. “We are almost there.” said Errier. “We have to be super quiet.” said Errier. We landed. I got off and walked over to Goran. “Okay so we are here.” I said to Goran. “Yeah lets go.” I grabbed my bow and fallowed Goran. We found a village full of orks and goblins. Errier fallowed quietly behind us. “There is The captain of the army. his name is Shadow. He is a evil elf with special powers, we need to watch our step.” said Goran. Shadow had pale skin and yellow eyes and his hair was black. We sneaked around the wall. “Here we will wear these for disguise.”said Goran as he handed me a black cloak. I put it on the hood covering my eyes.
“Sorry Errier, you have to stay here we will be right back.” I said to Errier. “Okay, be careful.” said Errier. “I will call you if there is trouble.” I said. “Come on Isabella.” whisper Goran. “Coming.” I said. I fallowed Goran into the camp. “Get in line! When you attack the next city The King wants you to find The Dragon and Her Rider, Kill them both when you find them!” said Shadow. I looked at the orks and goblins in the line. I kept fallowing Goran.
Then we found ourselves in a tent. “This is where they keep all there plans and maps.” said Goran as he walked over to a desk.
He pulled out a scroll. “This is there next attack.” said Goran as he handed me the scroll. Then all sudden we hear a voice behind us. “I guess your not allowed to be in here.” I whipped around to see Shadow standing near the entrance. “Its strange to see The Dragon Rider without her dragon.” He said. I put my hand on the hilt of my sword. Then with one spell Goran was lifted into the air and seemed to be tortured by the spell. “Put him down!” I demeaned. Shadow smiled showing his yellow teeth. “stupid girl, you came here and it was a huge mistake.” he said. Goran groaned in anger. “Tell me now fool! Where is your dragon?” he asked. “Don't tell him Isabella!" said Goran.
“I will never tell you, your a fool for fallowing the one that whipped out dragons! Your a fool for doing that!!!” I said in anger. Then one flash of light I was one the ground. “Fiererbus Demoortus!” I shouted and blue fire shot out of my hand. Errier came and broke the tent. “Isabella come on lets go!” shouted Errier. I helped Goran get on the dragon. Shadow ran out of the tent. Anger flowed in my veins. “Go Errier! Get Goran to safety!” I said. Errier obeyed and I fallowed Shadow.
My bow out.“Reim!" shouted Shadow. Lighting came out of his fingers. I dogged it. “Libereus!" I shouted. powerful wind blew every where knocking Shadow onto the ground. “Extium!” boomed Shadow. A cloud of fog was around us. “Lumminar!” my eyes became powerful.
I saw the figure of Shadow fleeing as fast as his feet can carry him.
He dropped a scroll. I went to go pick it up. I set it in my bag. “Errier!” I shouted. Errier landed in front of me Goran still on her back. I hopped on the dragon. “I found a place where we can be safe and camp.” said Errier. “Alright take us there!” I said. And Errier took off. I sat down at the camp. The fire was crackling in the fire place. I grabbed the scroll in my bag and pulled it out. “Goran, I found this weird scroll, Shadow dropped it.” I said. I handed the scroll to Goran.
He open it. “That's strange, its in really old elvish. I can't even read it.” said Goran. “Here let me see it.” I said. Goran handed me the scroll.
“I can read it! I can understand every word in it!" I said. “What does it say?” asked Errier. “It says that they would attack and try to take over Goldpeak The City Of Dwarves.” I said. “Thats a big city. No wonder they want to take it out.” said Goran. “We should warn them so they can evacuate.” Errier said.“Errier is right we should warn them.” I said. “Its gonna be a dangerous task I am not sure if its a good idea.” said Goran. “Not a good idea to help people in need!?" I said to him.
“I did not mean that I meant the armies of orks and goblins there, and Shadow might be there too!” said Goran. “You make a good point.” I finally say. “But we need to find out a way to let them now about the attack.” I said with pleading eyes. “We will figure it out tomorrow.” said Errier. “I guess I will go hunting for dinner then.” I said as I grabbed my bow and arrows. “I will be back soon.” And I walked off.
Chapter 7
Shadow
I walked into the woods my quiver on my back and my bow in my hand. I found a few small animals. But they were too small for a dragon, a boy and girl. Then I heard a cold voice. “They went somewhere here I want you to find them and kill them expect for the girl, keep her alive I will face her off my self.” I peeked around the tree to see Shadow with some goblins. The goblins ran off with a grunt.“Oh no.” I said as I watched the goblins run to camp. I grabbed my horn that was around my belt. I got it from my 10th birthday a long time ago.
