It was just another routine mission to the Moon. Little did I know that there would be something quite extraordinary about this basic voyage. I know that there’s no alien life on the Moon but I felt as though something was watching me the entire time. Yeah, I know the Moon can sometimes play tricks on your mind but I didn’t believe any of that mumbo jumbo. After collecting a few rock samples it was time to head back to Earth.

Meanwhile, at the local observatory, a group of stargazing enthusiasts were marveling at the wonders of the evening sky. “Holy money! What was that?” a man cried out. “Let me see!” the observatory’s curator responded. “I don’t see anything" he huffed. "Perhaps it was a shooting star or a comet!" another guest suggested.

"You see" the curator began," There are many celestial events that defy explanation. We are so small compared the enormity of the cosmos....” “Yeah, whatever. Can I have the telescope back?” the man in the glasses demanded. “Alright” the curator grumbled. The amateur astronomer had in fact witnesses something fantastical falling from the sky. But it was something much more significant than a shooting star or comet.

As the space shuttle’s pod began its descent back to Earth, a strange flying object was following close behind. It was a UFO! For some reason, the flying saucer didn’t show up on the space station’s radar down on Earth. And neither of my fellow astronauts seemed to notice. I love science fiction and it would be cool to see real aliens in the flesh but there was no life on the Moon. Period. I put the thought of Moon men out of my head as I prepared to renter the Earth’s atmosphere.

It usually takes me a while to get back to normal after being up in space. I always had a difficult time readjusting to life on Earth. I felt lightheaded and had problems with my balance. It had been a week since I had returned from the moon and I was having problems sleeping. So I decided to take my dog out for a late night walk. And once again I felt that strange feeling I experienced on my last mission to the moon. Was there somebody watching me? Aside from the chirping of a few crickets, the neighbourhood was quiet.

“So this is Earth. Pretty neat” said the alien as he climbed out of his spaceship. I’d love to make some human friends and really get to know this planet. We’ve lived next door to them for centuries and it’s about time the people of Earth got to know the Moon Goobers.” Yep, that’s what beings from the Moon call themselves. Grrrrrrrrr! “I don’t like that sound one bit!” the alien nervously remarked. “So much to learn about this world and...... Yikes! What is that thing?”

“Pax! Get back here!” I called out. What was he chasing? Was that...? Could it be?.... An alien? “Hello Earthling. I come in peace. Ha! Ha! I’ve always wanted to say that. I took my Dad’s spaceship and followed you back from the Moon.” “But there’s no life on the moon, uh, is there?” “Actually we’ve been there for millions of years” the blue glob responded. “Wow! But how did you stay hidden for so long?” Before the alien could answer my dog began to bark furiously. “Down Pax!” I scolded my jumpy pooch.

Another spaceship had arrived and out crawled a bigger, female version. “Melvin! There you are! You get back to the moon this instant mister!” It was Melvin’s mom and she was quite upset. “I’m sorry about this sir. He likes to wander the galaxy with his friends from time-to-time. Kids these days, huh?” “Uh, yeah” I think I mumbled with my knees trembling. “Aw, cmon Mom! Can’t my friends and I visit for a few more hours?” “Oh, alright but when you get home you’re grounded!” Wait, did Melvin just say “friends.”
