Origin of the Rosary and Purpose
The first origins of the rosary are still unknown today but it is a very important tool within the Roman Catholic church. It became widely used around 1751 when Pope Pius V encouraged its use in order to ask for help ending the threat of conquest by the Muslims at the time.
The rosary is used to set pace and setting for prayers, and focuses on the main aspects of Catholic faith as seen in the twenty mysteries. Each bead represents a specific prayer and its repetitiveness helps with meditation.
The term rosary is derived from the latin word rosarius, which means "bouquet of flowers".

Origin of Production and Distribution
Many religions used beads in order to keep track of prayer and they date back to pre-Christian times. Some people believe that the Muslims first introduced using beads and string to keep track of prayers to the Catholics and it was spread throughout the Christian society. As stated earlier it gained popularity in the 1500's and was spread throughout eastern Europes in hopes to fend off the ravaging Moslem Turks. After defeating the Turks the rosary was given a feast day by the Pope, October 7th, the same day the battle was won. Ever since that point in time it has been seen as a major symbol in faith even though it has changed slightly throughout time.
