Once upon a time, there was a thing called Carbon dating. You may be wondering, "What is Carbon Dating?" Well, I'm here to tell you.

Here's the thing. Radiometric or Carbon dating can figure out the exact age of a fossil.

We use Carbon dating instead of something else because it's the only way to find the exact age of a fossil.

To use Carbon dating, scientists measure the number of half-lives the fossil has been through. Then using a graph, they can determine the exact number of years that fossil has been there.

To understand Carbon dating, you have to know isotopes like Carbon12 and Carbon14.

Isotopes are atoms of the same element that have a different number of neutrons. To make an atom, you need protons, neutrons, and electrons.

Think of it like this. Isotopes are like lollypops. Lollypops are the same in a way, but they have different flavors. To make a different flavor, you need a different ingredient. Neutrons are the ingredients needed to make a different flavor in isotopes.
