It is already the second week of June, and few more weeks will be our vacation, but in private schools, they are already on vacation. My job as an elementary tutor also stopped and wait until her school's academic year starts again.
I've been tutoring this pupil for three years already, and with that, I am happy that she is progressing. However, this year is a challenge because she is learning remotely, and the synchronous sessions were not enough for her to grasp the lesson fully. So as a tutor, I did my best to teach all of her subjects in a way that she can understand concepts.
However, this job depends on her academic calendar. Hence, by this time, I do not have any part-time job. I have no means to help my mother financially. Our family is middle-class, where we eat three meals a day and can order foods from Food Panda, but I felt ashamed because it feels like I still depend on my parents even though I am already 21 years old.
So I decided to look for a job in the same field as tutoring, and upon the recommendation of my college friend, I saw a site, and it is legit. So yesterday, I sent my application and passed the first round.

This job is helpful for me because I can have a salary and have additional teaching experience. I can also slowly pay back my parents' expenses to me or lessen their burden financially. As the eldest in my family, I also have to help my parents and share responsibility in the house.

I was not forced to do it because I wanted to, as I still have shame. Besides, I grew up in a family that values responsibility and duty towards elders, and I adapted it since I was young. I am hoping for the best for my application. This job is two-way for me, pupils can learn from me, and I can learn from them. Fighting!

I can relate this to Japan's known philosophy, Giri. In English means "duty," in other words, a man's obligation to family/country or debt of gratitude. It is also associated with one's diligently doing their role in society and involves gratitude, moral debt, and loyalty. As for me, my parents are not pushing me to have a work to help them because I believe that it is right for me to pay back what I owe them- my life, luxury, and opportunities.
THANK YOU!
