By:

The Early Years
It was the December of 1770 in the city of Bonn. Ludwig van Beethoven was born into a family of musicians. Ludwig's young life was difficult though. His father drank heavily and could be very hard on the future composer.
Despite these challenges, Beethoven showed great talent at writing music. Years later, people were astonished how gifted his writing was even in his early teenage years. By the time he was a young man, he was noticed by another famous composer, Haydn. Soon, Beethoven traveled to Vienna and wrote his first symphony.

A Growing Talent
Beethoven studied with Haydn and Salieri in his young adulthood. He came to impress many in Europe with the range of his talent. Beethoven was able to write piano sonatas, ballet music, chorus music, and grand orchestral works. He was also a brilliant piano player.
By the early 1800s, Beethoven was recognized as a master of symphonies. He experimented with sound effects and tried new techniques that went beyond what previous composers had attempted. Yet, major challenges were already underway.
Struggle and Silence
As a young man, Beethoven began to realize that his hearing was declining. By 1802, he had to face the reality that he would eventually become deaf. Ludwig became very depressed and thought for a season that life was not worth living. But Beethoven decided to keep working hard. Little by little, he had to give up playing music. However, he could still write music. Some of Ludwig's greatest pieces were ahead of him.
