Once there was a girl that was always sad. Her parents and friends constantly tried to make her happy, but nothing worked. So one day, her dad gave her the nickname Moody. Her mom hoped she feels better on their family trip. Her trip to the beach was something that she had been looking forward to all summer.

Once at the beach, Moody moped around aimlessly. She kicked the sand around a bit. She was amazed by the sea turtle heading into the water and the dolphin in the distance. The beach was one of her favorite places to be. Moody decided to explore and see what else she can find. That's when she noticed a girl riding a surfboard.

" Hey, dad, I'm going for a swim." She said as she dove into the water. " Oh wow! Look at all the wonderful underwater life. I love the beach!" Moody took breaths into between looks. She wished that can take some of them home with her.

Moody realized that she swam out farther than she thought. When she came up for air, she noticed the girl on the surfboard, some fish, and people enjoying the water. She was too tired to swim back. The girl went over to her and asked if she wanted a lift back to the beach. Moody was thrilled.

" Thanks, I was tired. I'm Moody, by the way. What is your name? I saw you earlier out on the water. I think you are pretty good on the surfboard." Moody said.
" Hi Moody, I'm Sonya. I'm not that good on the board. I'm still learning. Is Moody your real name?" She answered.
Moody explained how she got the nickname, and Sonya thought it was funny.

Moody and Sonya giggled and talked. They became friends right away. Moody's sadness that lingered for so long was fading away. She longed for a new friend since her best friend Carol moved to the city. For the first time, Moody didn't feel alone. She and Sonya played and talked about things that they had in common. Sonya offered to teach Moody how to surf.

Moody showed Sonya the underwater creatures that amazed her. They swam for hours, and Sonya stayed over at Moody's for dinner and roasted marshmallows. The beach was so much fun. Sonya showed Moody the tadpoles the next day. They even explored the underwater cave where the seahorses lived. It was heartwarming.
