Today is my first day of middle school. Except today wasn’t the same, normal first day I have had the last six years, it was my first day at a brand-new school.

Mom and Dad both got jobs across the entire state, so our family of five hopped in the car, and started our new life together.

It was okay at first because it was just the summer, I could play with my sisters, but now, the dreaded first day of school was here.

“I am not going!” I shouted to my parents while pulling the covers over my head.

"Isabelle do not be ridiculous, you are going to have so much fun and make new friends”, mom said. “Now get up, you are not going to make me late”.
I could tell she was serious because she used my first name, instead of Izzy, her nickname for me.

“Ugh, not when you are the new weird kid”, I mumbled under my breath, quiet enough that Mom wouldn’t hear. Then I rolled out of bed, put my favorite blue Nike shirt on, grabbed some chocolate for lunch, and walked out the door.

Mom tried to give me a pep talk and some information about school on the way.
Now middle school is nothing like elementary school, I had to go to my very own locker, in the middle of nowhere! Of course Mom had to drop me off early.

The eyes were beaming at me. I kept my head down and walked towards the lockers. I found the number 36, which Mom wrote down for me as my locker on a little sheet of paper, and threw my books in. I pretended I was busy shuffling things around until the “ding” of the bell filled the hallway.

Walking into my first class, I was praying for a seating chart. Who would I sit by? “Thank goodness, there was one on the board”, I thought while I found my seat. Ms. Mager was my advisory teacher, and she seemed nice, but she also did not go out of her way to help me either. At least she had a seating chart.

My day kept going on and on like this, not speaking unless being spoken to, which only seemed to happen during introductions in the beginning of class. The clock was my best friend, staring down the time until I could go home and run in my room for familiar territory.
