Patti's family moved to Stuckville last summer and today was her first day at her new school. Patti was nervous about fitting in.

You see, Patti hadn't always been called "Patti". When she was born, her name was Patrick... but she never really felt like a "Patrick".
When she was little, her parents decorated her room with boy things. They gave her sports equipment and toy cars to play with. After all, "Patrick" had the body of a boy!

While "Patrick's" body looked like a boy's, "his" brain and "his" heart always felt more like a girl's. "He" didn't like basketballs and Tonka trucks, "he" liked gymnastics and unicorns

It took some courage, but "Patrick" told "his" parents that he had always identified as a girl. Mom and Dad did some research and learned that this was called being transgender. With Mom and Dad's support, "Patrick" decided to follow "his" brain and heart and become Patti.

When "Patrick" went to their old school as Patti for the first time, her class mates weren't so nice!

They wouldn't sit with her, they laughed at her and they called her mean names. This made Patti feel alone and sad.

Patti went to try out for the girls' soccer team and was turned away. She was told that because of her body she would have to go out for the boys' team.
