One Saturday morning,
Jacob and his grand-
father were walking to
the grocery store.

"Wow, this place has changed so
much!" Grandpa exclaimed.
"But Grandpa, we always go here!"
said Jacob. "It wasn't always like
this, Jacob," he said. "Really?"
Jacob asked.

"Instead of roads, there were fields
and forests. Instead of cars
everywhere, there were animals-
horses, sheep, goats, you name it!
Trees towered over us like the
skyscrapers that we see now!" he
explained. "What happened to the
trees?" Jacob wondered.

"More people moved here, and they
wanted a place to live too. Trees got
cut down to make room for buildings,
paper started being used
everywhere, roads started to get
paved, and before you know it, we
had a city."Grandpa said with a sigh.

READ ALL ABOUT IT!

"You don't seem too happy about
that, Grandpa. Isn't it good to
have more people around?" Jacob
asked. "It is, in a way, but..."
Grandpa replied. "But?" Jacob
prodded.

"Well, the way we live isn't as good as it used
to be. There is so much noise, so many lights,
so many cars driving everywhere and so much
pollution that it isn't very healthy to live
here anymore. If we had more trees..."
Grandpa trailed off. "If we had more trees,
then what, Grandpa?"Jacob questioned.
Grandpa didn't answer the question. "Oh,
look, the grocery store!" he exclaimed
instead.

Jacob really wanted to

me to tell you when we are

Jacob. "Okay," Jacob
sighed.

So, while they
were shopping,
Jacob waited.

And waited.
