As a young boy, Titus loved the game of football and dreamed of playing in the NFL. He started playing when he was young and was blessed with talent. In his early years he played wide receiver and made many great plays for his teams. He would always watch National Football League (NFL) games on TV and think to himself, “I want to play in the NFL someday.” As Titus grew older, he found more love for the game and started to try out new positions.

As a freshman in high school, Titus was very excited to begin the football season. The starting quarterback had moved away and with no other players to fill the role, Titus had to step up and be the quarterback for his team. Coach Butler was a big help to Titus, he was always there when he needed him. Game after game him and his team got better and better facing tougher opponents each week. After a long hard-fought season, The Muleshoe Mules Freshman team went undefeated with a district championship.

During his sophomore year, him and a few of his friends were moved up to varsity and they were so excited. Though Titus played as a receiver, he had a good season winning the “chop champ” World wrestling Entertainment (WWE) belt for getting the most chop blocks during a few games that season and having a couple of receptions. Everything was starting to become clear now, at least that is what Titus thought. During the Area championship Titus was doing a good job until he caught a pass and tore his Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL).

Titus had to work hard if he wanted to return to play the game he loved so much. It was going to be a challenge to strengthen his knee. He did not like going to physical therapy, it was very challenging. Over time, Titus and his physical therapists became like family. He was thankful for all they helped him with and all the encouragement they gave him.

Four months into therapy, Titus had an appointment to get released to play football again. He was so excited to begin working towards his football dream again! First stop was the shoe store, so he could start running again but a sudden symptom of blurry vision halted his plans. Titus waited the weekend thinking his blurry vision was due to allergies but a trip to his doctor set off a chain of events no one saw coming. His doctor sent him to an eye doctor in Lubbock and that doctor told him to go to University Medical Center for Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) through the emergency room. After getting the MRI, Titus found out he had a brain tumor.

After running some tests, the doctors found out it was cancerous, and Titus and his family were devastated. His cancer journey was going to be long and his high school prom was coming up. Him and his doctors agreed that he should go have fun at prom, so he did. After having a good time with friends, it was time to start chemotherapy.

It was time to start treatments but Titus felt so weak and sick. He could not walk under his own power and his parents rushed him to the hospital. After another MRI, they found out that his tumor had grown and was blocking spinal fluid from exiting his brain, this is also known as hydrocephalus. Titus needed emergency surgery.

After the surgery was done, he started chemotherapy. After some time passed Titus received another MRI and found out that the chemo was not shrinking the tumor. It was still growing, and he needed another surgery. Once the surgeons finished the surgery, Titus was not waking up as fast as a patient should after surgery. Not knowing what was wrong, the doctors sent him to get another MRI. Once the results came back, Titus and his family found out that he had a massive brain bleed. This brain bleed took nearly all the strength in his body. He could not stand, talk, or even breathe on his own. He had to work very hard to regain what he lost. It was so hard for him, but he continued to fight with help from the God.

Titus worked hard and was able to regain strength every day.
