Hi, my name Alfie, and I am a puppy. Today my owner (Chloe) says she has a big surprise for me. I really wonder what it is. I follow her to the secret room, the most special room in our house. I never came here before; I wonder what could be so special. When I came in, it didn't even smell good. Instead, the smell was bad, terrible, horrible. I was so happy at first, but now I feel uncertain.

Two whiskers popped out, one paw, and two curious eyes, then a gray little kitten popped out! I jumped back, and the kitten shivered! A KITTEN! Why a kitten? I hate kittens and cats. They give me the shivers. Chloe expects us to get along?  Does she know I hate cats and kittens. She led me and the kitten out  of the secret room. She told me to show her around, but I just went my own way. 

Chloe picked up the tiny kitten and cooed. Aww, your so cute, she said to the kitten. Crystal is a perfect name for you. I eyed them snuggling up together. I thought of the times she picked me up and snuggled with me too. I felt really bad for being jealous, but I wish she could do that to me too. Then the kitten ran of playing with the ball as Chloe giggled. I just sighed and left the room sadly. I felt very sad.

The next morning, the sun was shining high in the sky. It was such a beautiful day. The sun was high in the sky. I thought I should just give Chloe another try. I jumped up on her bed and barked showing an adorable little face, but she didn't smile or laugh like she did all the time. Instead she grabbed Crystal in her hand and shouted at me saying "You almost woke Crystal up" and she carefully put Crystal back to bed.

The sky darkened, I turned sad. I wanted Chloe to be happy, not angry. I was quiet for some of the day. Then I went to my doghouse to make a plan. I thought and I thought, but then I came up with a cruel but good idea. I was going to fight Crystal in the night. I thought for a moment to think if that actually was the best plan. I said to myself "it is the only way" and slept so I can get energy for the night.
