My name is Miss Caines. I am 24 Years old and I
have always lived in Ontario. I grew up with my
Mom, my Dad, my Sister and Brother. I have 2
dogs named Punky and Zeus. What I love most
about my family is that we are all musical.

My dad has been playing guitar since we were
babies. My brother has been playing guitar for ten
years. My mom has been playing mandolin for five
years and my sister has been singing since she
could talk. That only leaves one more family
member... me! My instrument is the fiddle. A
fiddle and a violin are the same instrument they
are just different styles of music.
I have been playing my fiddle since I was thirteen
years old, but I didn't always have a fiddle.

I absolutely love playing my fiddle, it is my all time
favorite thing to do. I've been playing for eleven
years and I remember the very first time I saw a fiddle
up close.

It was the year 2001 and my mom had won a radio
contest and won four front row seats to a Shania Twain
concert.
A big limo pulled up to our house and took us to
the Air Canada Center in Toronto. We were
sitting in the front row waiting for the show to
start and the lights dimmed and the opening act
came on the stage. There were about fifteen
people on stage and every one of them was playing
a fiddle. My eyes lit up! I couldn't believe what I was
hearing. I asked my Dad what the group was called.
They were called Leahy, a musical family from the
East Coast of Canada. From that point on, I knew I
wanted to play the fiddle.

Two whole years had passed and I had been asking for a
fiddle almost every day. My parents weren't sure if I was
responsible enough to take care of an instrument and
take the time I needed to practice playing. I explained to
them that I was going to be turning thirteen years old
and I knew I could take care of a fiddle.

On my Thirteenth birthday all of my friends came over
to my house for a party. There was music, balloons,
prizes, delicious food and lots of presents. I sat in the
middle of my friends and family opening wonderful gift
after gift. It was a beautiful day. I finished opening the
last gift, it was a pair of Mickey Mouse Pajamas. I
stood up and thanked everyone for the beautiful gifts.
Just then my dad walked out of his bedroom with a big
box. My eyes grew wide, and I immediately wondered
if it could possibly be what I was hoping for. I sat back
down in the middle of the circle, I opened the box.and
I couldn't believe it. It was a dark, cherry wood, four
stringed, fiddle!

It belonged to my Grandmother who lives in
Newfoundland. My Dad told me that the fiddle was
the same fiddle my Grandmother played as a young
girl.
She also played the fiddle for my Dad when he was a
young boy. I was so happy. My dream came true.
