Once upon a time there lived a small girl with
bright red hair and rosy pink cheeks. Her fiery
spirit lit up each room and no bully at school
dared to pick on her. Rosalynn also had a
loving and caring nature. She was so caring
that her parents let her have a little white
kitten to care for.

Many of her friends needed a night light to
keep the monsters at bay, but not sweet little
Rosalynn. All she needed was her gusto and
confidence that flowed in abundance. Nothing
scared Rosalynn. She could conquer any
monster that came her way. She was always
ready for any boogie man under the bed or
dark shadow in the closet. In fact, she waited
in excited anticipation to actually see a real life
monster one day.

One still, quiet night when all creatures
seemed to be slumbering in their cozy beds,
there came a distant sound of a curious
pursuit. “Rustle rustle rustle" sounds came
from her dark bedroom. Suddenly, the wind
knocked hard against the window in a violent
protest, startling her but, of course, not really
scaring her.

Carefully listening to the dark void before her
in the general direction of her closet, she
strained her eyes while holding her breath.
She waited and waited, but nothing... just
darkness and quietness. Slowly reaching the
round tips of her toes to the floor, she found
her way closer to the closet, tripping over her
sleeping white kitten. With a soft mew and a
sharp scurry, her kitten was alert and ready to
pounce by her side.

Still in darkness, she decided that a flashlight
might prove helpful in discovering what lurked
in the closet. After a brisk search for her trusty
flashlight she found it under her pillow. “Click”
and the flashlight lit up her bed. Slowly she
followed the room with the flashlight. She
abruptly halted at the closet. Nothing there,
just her clothes and toys neatly placed. She
turned her head slightly in confusion, “I’m sure
there was something in there,” she mumbled
to herself.

Deciding that her imagination tricked her, she
turned off her flashlight and started to lift her
covers. She hastily realized that something
pulled the covers right out of her hand and
then made a high pitch squeal. Shocked, she
dropped the flashlight and fumbled to find it.
She finally brought the spotlight onto a huge,
furry monster in her bed.
Excited and overjoyed to see a real life
monster, she barely realized that this large
creature was shivering in adamant fear.

The creature was curled up in a tight furry ball of
nervous fear. Laughter filled the dark room as
Rosalynn rolled and hollered for several minutes.
"How could such a large, intimidating creature be
scared of me?" she thought. Soon she realized
that this guy needed reassurance that he was
safe and out of harm. So with one big jump she
hugged his large furry neck and told him that
everything was ok. His furry shoulders slowly
lowered and he stopped his violent, fearful
shaking. Holding back tears of fright, he asked
her, “Where am I?”

“My bedroom!“ she proclaimed, with pride and
hospitality. “What are you so afraid of?” she
asked with a small giggle. “You,” the creature
replied, slightly raising his head to look at her.
“But why, silly? I’m just a little girl and you’re
a big monster,” she proclaimed. “Monster?” he
questioned, “What’s a mon-sst-errr?”
Laughing again, she replied, “You, of course. A
creature that is big and scary with fur and a
beak … just like you”.
