Dedicated to all the children of the African Diaspora. May our stories be told, heard, passed on and uplifted.

Hi my name is Dawit. My mom is American. My dad is Ethiopian. I am Ethiopian-American. Do you know where Ethiopia is located?

Ethiopia is a beautiful country in the eastern part of Africa. It shares borders with five other countries, Sudan, Kenya, Somalia, Eritrea, and Djibouti. Can you find Ethiopia on the map?

Sunday is my favorite day of the week. On Sundays my family comes to visit. We eat special foods, play games, dance, tell stories and have a special ceremony.

Grandma Lottie cooks black-eyed-peas. Mmmmm, my favorite! Grandma Lottie says traditionally in African-American culture black-eyed- peas are prepared for New Year’s Eve to bring blessings into the new year.
I am blessed to spend time with my family.

Aunt Salaam brings doro wot and injera. Injera is a round flat bread eaten with meals in Ethiopian culture. The word doro means chicken in the Amharic language. Doro wot is chicken stew with garlic, onions, tomatoes, and spices. I love to eat injera because we eat it with our hands.
