Pumpkins come in all different shapes and sizes, from being able to fit in the palm of your hand to being larger than the family car. Pumpkins also come in a variety of different colors such as orange, pink/tan, black, green, and white. Here are a few different types of pumpkins that we often see:

These are often called baby boo pumpkins, but they are also known as Blanco pumpkins.

This kind of pumpkin is called a Knucklehead pumpkin because it has lots of warts.

These green and yellow patterned pumpkins are known as Kakai pumpkins, and they are great for decorations around the house.

These pinkish tan pumpkins are called Long Island Cheese pumpkins because of their color.

This is your classic orange pumpkin called a Howden. Howden pumpkins are usually the pumpkin we use for Jack-O-Lanterns for Halloween.

Although this may look just like a Howden, this pumpkin is called a sugar pumpkin. These pumpkins are used mainly in seasonal pumpkin recipes like pies or stews.
Before we go through the steps of planting pumpkins, there are a few things that we need to know.
Make sure that you buy pumpkin seeds for planting and not for eating.
It is helpful to use enriched soil or fertilizer when planting pumpkins.
Make sure you don't plant until at least 2 weeks after your areas last frost date.
Pumpkins take about 75-110 day to be ready to harvest

Planting pumpkin seeds is a simple task. However, it is important that you follow the steps.
First, you need to find a large area that is exposed to lots of sunlight.

Next, you need to prepare your soil by loosening up the dirt. For extra nutrients, you can add fertilized soil.

After your soil is prepared, you can plant the seeds.
Make sure you plant the seeds 1 inch deep and 6 to 12 inches apart in a row.

Once your seeds are planted, cover them up with soil and make sure to water them once a week.
After a a few months your pumpkins will be ready for harvesting.

Now that you're waiting for your pumpkins to grow, let's talk about the pumpkins stages of growth.
Just like all other living things, pumpkins change and grow throughout their life.

Germination is the first stage of growth for pumpkins. This is when the first root of the seed grows down to hold the seed in the soil.
Next, you will start to see a tiny green plant sprouting out of the ground. Sprouting is the second stage in the pumpkins growth.

The third stage is True Leaf Growth. You will see first true leaves growing from the center of the plant. These help start the process of photosynthesis.
First true leaves will begin to fall off when third true leaves start to form. These leaves help to further the photosynthesis process.
