Cognitive Development: Picks up toys and places in the basket.

Letty loves playing outside with her mom before its time to head off to preschool. Her mom tells her "It's time to pick up your toys and get ready for preschool Letty." She quickly stops playing and begins to pick up her toys and put them in the toy basket. She can't wait to see her teacher and all her friends.

Letty and Boston are best of friends and love playing together. They sit quietly as they listen to their teacher read the story, The Little Dump Truck, by Margery Cuyler. After Ms. Allen finishes the story, Letty tells Boston, "Let's play with trucks" and off to the block center they go.

Language Development: Communicates actions happening in a story.

Music time is a favorite activity for the children. When Ms. Allen begins playing her guitar, Letty turns to her classmates and tells her peers "Let's go to the carpet and have music with Ms. Allen." Letty and her peers quickly turn and gather around the carpet area, joining in as they begin playing various musical instruments. They love music and singing along with their teacher.
Language Development: Turns and looks in direction of sound.
Cognitive Development: Begins to sort shapes.

Letty loves all the bright colors and different shapes of blocks there are to play with. Her favorite color is red. She decides to begin sorting the blocks by shape and color before she begins building a special tower with them.

Language Development: Says first name.

It's a beautiful summer day outside and the children were excited to get some much-needed fresh air. Time quickly passes by though when Ms. Allen calls all the children over to line up so she can take attendance before going inside. Ms. Allen begins doing roll call to be sure all children are accounted for. When Letty hears her name, she proudly yells, "that's me, Letty. I'm in line."

All the children are busy at play doing important work in Ms. Allen's classroom. Children at the carpet are drawing with crayons and markers. At the block center, Letty and Boston decide to use props to create a den for the bear to hibernation for the winter. Letty tells Boston, "Mr. Bear needs to have a warm place to sleep."
Cognitive Development: Uses imagination when playing.

During recess time, Letty wants to play Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes with her friends and asks Ms. Allen to help them begin the game. "Everyone grab a friend's hand before we start the game." As Ms. Allen starts singing Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes, Letty and her friends touch each body part named.

Cognitive Development: Points to two body parts

Language Development: Understands simple instructions.
It's Friday and everyone is ready for the weekend. Many children line up, but Ms. Allen sees Letty forget to grab her backpack before heading to the school bus. Ms. Allen quickly reminds her, "Letty, be sure you take your backpack home today." Letty goes back to her locker to get her backpack, then it's off to line up for the bus.
