the cry of little Irma Rangel
made quite the sound.

she began her life under the
southern Texas sun.

people were cruel.
She had to travel
very far just to
go to school.

her attended a school called the Mexican
Ward, by everyone else her people's
rights were ignored.

their big move across town made
quite the impact.

surrounded by difference. This was
their first attempt for true equality
with persistence.

May of 1952, Irma
Rangel received her
Bachelor's degree
from what is now
known as
Kingsville-TAMU!

and elementary. It was quite clear to her
students she was teacher of the century!

in political actions, she chose to go
back to school to pursue a law degree
in order to benefit the Hispanic faction!

Irma still felt that she could help out
her fellow peers, so she became the
first Hispanic female clerk for judge
Adrian Spears!

became the first Hispanic female
in Texas to hold a job as an
Assistant District Attorney!
