How are you doing in the area of property and
finances? Are you representing Christ with honour?
Does your way of handling life’s transactions honour
the name of Christ? Consider the following case-
studies, then rate your own journey of faith.

A servant
Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be
found faithful. 1 Corinthians 4:2 (KJV)
References: Genesis 15:1-4; Genesis 24;
Before the birth of Abraham’s son, a servant born in his
household stood in line to inherit all of Abraham’s
wealth. The act of establishing Isaac, Abraham’s heir, in
marriage did nothing to advance the cause of Abraham’s
steward. Yet faithfulness to Abraham and his family is
observed in the life of Abraham’s steward, who in the
absence of an heir stood to gain all of Abraham’s wealth.
Contrast this with: Luke 20:9-18;

Abraham
Reference: Genesis 14 (especially verses 18-24);
In times of war, victorious parties often used the
opportunity to secure great advantage over others. Yet
Abraham never took from the loot obtained in war,
except what was needed to cover his costs. He did not
pursue his advantage of victory in order to amass great
wealth. His personal wealth came through divine favour
on his hard work and industry.

Isaac
For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war
after the flesh: 2 Corinthians 10:3 (KJV)
Reference: Genesis 26 (especially verses 19-22);
Isaac sought to live peaceably among his neighbours
despite his great wealth and influence in the land. It was
Isaac’s choice to repeatedly incur personal losses and
inconvenience rather than enforce his ownership rights.
Contrast this with: James 4:1-3;

Jacob
For I say, through the grace given unto me, to
every man that is among you, not to think of
himself more highly than he ought to think; but to
think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every
man the measure of faith. Romans 12:3 (KJV)
Reference: Genesis 31 (especially verses 36-42);
When faced with gross injustice most people would
refuse to put others ahead of self. While as a younger
man Jacob sought to outsmart others, as an older and
wiser man he honoured God by seeking the welfare of
others before his own.
