Author's introduction.
Sometimes, people always write on their author introductions "I used to think books without pictures were stuffy and boring" or "My mum only read me books without pictures" But I like to think the opposite sometimes. I do love books with pictures myself, but sometimes when I read books without any pictures they really do make a change. For me, I like to picture my own little image in my head of the character and what it's saying or doing like a little cartoon.
To be honest, I used to always judge a book by its cover and when I looked inside, there was only small writing. I decided to read the first page but when I wanted to know what happened next, I begged myself to read another. I ended up reading the whole book and I also found it very interesting. A that doesn't have any pictures can even be one of the best books you ever read! And that's why I would love to thank Jacqueline Wilson.
See if you can picture a little cartoon in your head of what's happening or what the character is saying with this book I wrote...
Chapter 1
My name is Ellerina. For short my friends call me Ellie, but I like to be called Ellerina better, because my
nickname just sounds like a baby elephant. I was born in 1897 and I have a very big family. I would be happy to introduce them to you all, but I’m not very sure if my sisters and brothers are…
I have 4 sisters and they’re all very
annoying ( I mean the most annoyingest ever ) —except for my little sister, Ebba. I love her the best because she is the youngest so I can boss her around, and it’s so cute when she asks me to play dollies with her. Her real name is Ebbara,
but I call her ‘Ebba’ for short too. My other sisters are Ella, Emma and Elliza. The oldest out of all of them is Emma—and I would call her the most annoying out of all of them. The second oldest is Elliza. She is 16 years old and I just know she hates
me. She is always making fun of me, blaming everything on me and calling me a baby. Well that’s not actually true… I am the middle sister ( atleast ) and I come after Elliza. I am 12, but I wish I was one of the oldest sisters, so I could boss all of
them around and be the helpful one to the family. Now let me introduce you to my 5 brothers. Jack is the oldest and he is 19, then there is Julip and he is 14. There’s also Jude and Judy. They are both twins, which means both of them are 10 years old.
Lastly there is Jace. I absolutely hate him. He always calls me a copy-cat, which is soooo annoying. He is probably the second most annoying little brother, out of the boys section. Jace is 8. As he drives me CRAZY I like calling him copy-
cat too. Then comes Ma and Pa. I love them. They aren’t like those Mums and Dads that just abandon their children, or send them to the orphanage. They are the complete opposite. They are so loving, and I love them both. Ma and pa are
always there for me, and they always help me with my school work/homework, and I knew that I was they’re favourite child. They were my favourite members of the family. My friends are: Lulu, Bea, Sina, Saphira, Em ( Emily ) and
Kiira. They are my very best friends on the outside—but on the inside—maybe not so much like me. I don't like to mention that I’ve never tried coca cola, or I’m not allowed to eat sweets, or that I don’t walk without a parent yet. All of my friends act a
little like teenagers and they’re always hanging out together– and they’re always having playdates and sleepovers. I’ve never been to a sleepover before, because Ma doesn’t let me sleep at someone else’s house, only as she thinks I might not be
comfortable as well as that I might feel sick during the night. She always tells me: I have a perfect little home, with all my sweet brothers and sisters. Firstly,’sweet’ they are not. Not at all. I try to believe mum, but I can’t help all of my friends hanging
out together, meeting each other at each other's houses. I try to join in, but I just feel like I don’t really fit in. Although I shouldn’t be feeling that way. Anyway—they are my best ( and only ) friends, but sometimes I just wish that I could fit in.
Chapter 2
I try to hide all of my unbelievable secrets, of how it’s like in my family, but sometimes it can get hard, because they ask me quite a lot of questions. We were at school the next day. When I got there, I saw Em and Kiira in the quiet garden,
chatting to each other about play–dates and sleepovers. I tried joining in, but they stopped talking, as soon as I came, so I wouldn't have to be jealous. We had a conversation together. Kiira quickly spoke first, and just said; ‘Hi Ellie!’
‘Hi guys, I was wondering if we had any homework due today, because I didn't really do anything, because I was busy doing—uh—working on my new book I’ve been doing.’I only said that because I didn’t have anything else to talk about. ‘Boring!’ Em said
quickly. ‘Just messing around with you Ell’,it is cool what you're doing, but what’s it about?’
‘uh—keeping a healthy diet.’ I tried saying that quickly. I knew that Kiira was going to say something next— ‘oh’ in a disappointing way. — ‘uh, I
mean It’s about baking! It has lots of recipes in my book, and it starts with how to make a burberry cake. It has ingredients on the cover of the page, with an extraordinary, and delicious strawberry tart, squeezed up next to it.’ That gave me a brilliant
idea; maybe I really could make a baking book,as it sounded so interesting and I could also impress my friends the next day. ‘Cool’ Em quickly spoke again.
‘Bring it to us the next day,’ Kiira bellowed.
‘I’m not really sure if I will be finished by then.’
‘It doesn’t matter, you can still bring it to us so me and Em could have a look at. I’m sure it will be real good. You're such a good artist Ellie’. Kiira suggested.
‘Thanks Kiira, maybe I really could finish it tonight.’
As we were all chatting to each other, we didn't realise that the bell rang. ‘Quick!’ We were all running to our classes quickly, so we wouldn’t have to get a late mark. I started
worrying as Lulu and Bea, still weren’t here yet. I already knew that Sina was here, as I saw her head, peeking out through the window, trying to wave to me, Kiira and Em. I had a feeling that Lulu and Bea were both walking with each other again,
as they live so close, and probably thinking to themselves; “we’re going to be so late”. Lulu and Bea were always late for class, and came during registration. Our teacher, Ms. Kaneohe, had always gotten so mad at them, but they didn't care one bit.
We had Geography in the morning, and we were learning about a country that formed part of Great britain; Wales. Geography wasn’t as fun today, as we were learning a new topic, and Ms. Kaneohe had moved me next to a very annoying boy in
my class. His name was Riley. When Ms. Kaneohe told us to talk to our partner about what we know about Wales already, Riley just kept showing of, saying that Wales was amazing because I got to go to Holidays there, and that he went to
Punch and Judy's show, and that he saw the little and great Ore, and that he got to have quadruple layers of raspberry, blueberry, melon and bubble gum ice cream. I told him that I was making a baking book, and that I had already baked the
recipes that were going to be in the book.
“Good luck with that,” he said in a rude way. “Good luck with passing your test!”
“Hmm!” Riley snapped.
Ms. Kaneohe told everyone to stop
talking, and tell us what we all knew about Wales so far. I ducked down so Ms. Kaneohe wouldn’t have to ask me what I was talking about with Riley—but Riley put his hand up straight away, showing off to the class what he did in Wales. Again.
Chapter 3
I soon realised that the Geography lesson was coming to the end, and that Ms. Kaneohe would say “break-
time Kids!” any minute…
Soon me, Lulu, Bea, Em, Saphira, and Kiira all went outside to play. We didn’t really play any fairy games, like the ones we used to play in year 1, instead Em brought some fruit tella, and she shared it out with us
evenly. If mum were here, she would definitely not let me have any treats that my friends gave me, but as she wasn’t here, I secretly took a packet, and we all ate our fruit tella happily.
I brought snacks too, but I didn’t bother to share any with my friends,
because as soon as I saw Em handing out all the fruit tella, I thought my snack might not be as interesting, so I just had it all for myself. I had some small nuggets on a stick of 0% sugar, and then I ate a small meal–deal snack bar, which
contained; chicken, salt, high protein, and 0.1 % fat. I found it very good, but if I shared it with my friends, I’m not sure if they would. Soon the bell rang for the end of breaktime, and we had to come back to our classrooms for period 2. We had
english. I hate English. We were learning to use punctuation correctly, but I found it very hard. I’m not as good as English anyway—so I barely knew anything. After English, we had maths which was way better. I had now sat next to Bea, so maths had
nearly been my favourite subject. Bea had nearly been chatting to me for the whole lesson, but I didn’t want to be rude, so I just responded to her, even though I should’ve told her to stop talking. Our teacher was called Ms. Labrobbo. She was very
nice to the class I thought, and once we were doing super well, at the end of the lesson she gave us 1 chocolate bar each! I saved mine for the end of the day, even though all of my friends were begging me to eat it with them at lunch. I shouldn’t have
saved it for the end of the day. I realised that when Ma saw it, she wouldn’t let me have it by then, and she kept it in her cupboard for ages. It’s still there now, but it’s not like I can sneakily come out of school and go all the way home, to get one
chocolate bar. Anyway—it was lunch time soon. I sat next to Kiira and Lulu and we were chatting to each other away to nowhere.
Chapter 4
Kiira soon asked me about the baking
book I was making, because she seemed so interested in it. Em wasn’t interested as much, but I knew that she would find some great recipes in there. For lunch I had; rice, some grapes, an apple, cucumber, chicken and another meal–
deal snack bar. My food was a bit boring, and it certainly wasn’t the packed lunch everyone else would have. Everybody else would either have sweets, sandwiches, crisps, or coke. The food that Ma packed me was much more healthier. I felt a
little left out that everyone would have such fast food in their packed lunches, I also knew that Kiira and Lulu found my food disgusting, but they probably don’t want to say it to be rude. So I ate happily, trying to hide what I had a little, and trying
to squeeze my pack lunch box a little so I could hide my lunch. Kiira shared a few crisps with me and Lulu, and she also gave me a pack of raisins because Kiira didn’t like them. I was so happy that Ma wasn’t here, otherwise she would definitely not let
me have it. It would be so embarrassing… When Me and Kiira finished our lunch, we were planning to head outside for our break time. Lulu was still eating though, but she only had a pack of popcorn, and a Milk chocolate Hershey bar left.
When we all finished eating, we went outside and we went to the quiet garden, while the boys were playing another round of football. Lulu brought some board games for us to play, so she got all of the games out of her bag ( me and Kiira helped her
) and we started playing another game of “GAME OF THE GOOSE” We all had lots of fun playing our good old games that we always played, but sadly Ms. Kaneohe had shouted in her highest voice so everyone could hear her; “Lunchtime
dismissed” so we all had to come back to the classroom when we heard her call. Then it was History. History was also very interesting and fun, because we were learning about the Anglo–Saxons. All of my friends definitely hate History. They aren’t
much of a fan of school or any subjects we have. I love to learn. I wasn’t dedicated to all of the subjects, and I found some of them a bit boring. But others were better, like art, Design and working in technology ( DWT ) because they
were fun to me as well.
Chapter 5
Nowadays we have to walk to our classrooms, because the teachers are
the ones that deserve to be paid, but at least no one pays for them anyway, so we have to walk outside in the cold, to go to our next lesson. We had DWT ( Thankyou god! ) I hoped that we wouldn’t have science, because our DWT teacher is also our
science teacher. Anyway we never know what class we’re going to have next, the teacher tells us when we get in, but we have to try to walk to the correct classroom, otherwise if we didn’t, that would be double detention for everyone. So unfair! I
got to sit next to Kiira, which made DWT even better than before! To be honest, Kiira is probably my best friend out of all of them, because she is always so kind. I am so happy I am sitting next to her now. Kiira was chatting a little bit, but I
managed to find a good time to respond to her, and If our teacher saw us ( which she probably did anyway ) I knew she wouldn’t tell us off, as she was the nicest person ever. — But Ma and Pa come first of course. Her name was Ms.
Lavanderie, my favourite teacher, and probably the nicest. Me and Kiira both liked her, and sometimes we had asked Ms. Lavanderie a few questions as if she was our secret teacher friend… We both spotted in the lesson that Ms. Lavanderie had a
