Figgy woke up this morning feeling excited.

"What a great day!" he proclaimed as he jumped out of bed.

Figgy often felt excited at the beginning of the day. But today he felt really special! Today is Take Your Dog to Work Day!

Figgy's person, Kelly, worked at the elementary school as a theater teacher.
Figgy had a lot of questions about what to expect.

As they drove to school, Figgy asked Kelly what her students would be learning in theater class today.

"All about fluency!" Kelly informed Figgy excitedly.
Figgy thought to himself quietly for a moment. Figgy knew a lot of words, but he found himself baffled.

"What is fluency?" he wondered allowed.
"Stick with me, Figgy," Kelly assured him. "Today you'll learn everything you need to know."

In the classroom, Kelly smiled at Figgy and wrote the word accuracy on the board.

"Can anyone explain one of the most important parts of theater to Figgy?" she asked the class.

Figgy sighed a big sigh of relief.

"I can!" exclaimed a student named Kendra.

"Accuracy!" Kendra said, excited. "We need to know what sounds go with what letters to make sure lines are being said correctly.

Figgy nodded, hoping he understood Kendra correctly.
"Is that when you know the script by heart?" Figgy asked Kendra.

"Kind of," Kendra replied. "When we are reading for accuracy, we are like detectives, decoding sounds to make sure we say the words in our lines correctly.
Figgy considered briefly what he would look like as a detective.

"Once we have practiced over and over again, and can deliver our lines effortlessly, we've reached automaticity, like what you are saying," she replied to Figgy.
Figgy smiled at Kendra and Kelly while he wagged his tail.

"Boy, that sounds like a lot of work," Figgy commented, suddenly feeling a nap come on.

"It's fun!" Kelly assured Figgy. "We learn because we do repeated reading. We read, and reread our scripts to make sure we understand what it means."

"Please move into the readers theater classroom configuration," Figgy heard Kelly instruct the class distantly, as he took a brief snooze.

When Figgy awoke, he saw that the students had moved into a circle facing one another. Each held a script in their hand. Figgy put a bone in his mouth so that he also had something to hold. "Is it time for a meeting?" he asked Kelly.

"It's not quite a meeting, but we are going to do something together. It's called Readers Theater. When we're in Readers Theater we perform the script. This helps us understand its meaning and recognize all of our lines," a student named Sarah offered.
