Billy King Jean was born on November 22, 1943 in Los Angeles, California. At just age 11, Billy picked up the sport tennis. She started playing every other week at her local free tennis courts. But as her love grew more she started playing everyday.

“I am going to be Number 1 in the world.” she said.
As Billy Jean grew, so did her talent and love for tennis. She worked day and night to achieve her dream of becoming a professional tennis player. But was looked down upon because she was a girl. This did not stop Billy.

She can't play tennis. She's a girl.
In 1961, Billy attended California State University. Where she participated in many local tournaments and worked as a tennis instructor as well. Her strength and perseverance made her stronger as a player and as a student.

Billy played incredibly well and attracted many people with her talent. In 1961, King became the youngest tennis player to win the Wimbledon doubles championship with her partner, Karen Susman.

Through dedication and practice Billy made it into the professional league. In 1966, when she was 23 years old, she won the Wimbledon singles championship for the first time. This started a great pattern for her—she won the next two years as well! She also won the 1967 US Open and the 1968 Australian Open.
