Not long ago, I watched the Netflix series Anne of Green Gables. It is a delightful series, which led me to also read the series written by Lucy Maud Montgomery, the Canadian writer who was initially rejected by many publishers, but who, as soon as she published the first volume, experienced a resounding success. So, today we are talking about this beginning of the series, a book impeccably translated by the people at Bestseller.

Anne of Green Gables is an absolutely delightful novel with a style that creates pure enchantment. It is a classic dedicated to the little ones, but which, in my opinion, is excellent at any age, managing to provide a great feeling of well-being at the end and a fantastic optimism. Anne has the power to make you hope that the world can be a better place, full of gentleness, joy and self-belief:
"There are so many people in the world who love us...if only we had eyes to see, hearts to love, and hands to receive what is offered to us."

The eleven-year-old child embodies in a unified whole everything you want in a person: sincerity, friendship, camaraderie, kindness, the power of forgiveness, love of man and nature, and the list could go on and on. You want a friend like this little girl and you do it with all your heart. She just doesn't know how to hate, stands up when she's wrong, recognizes her qualities and flaws in equal measure, doesn't hold grudges, and gives chances over chances, reaching out even to those who discourage or offend her. And daydream about a better world, having the power to transform the ugliest place into a dream.
4
There are not only shades of gray about her, but the palette is extremely wide, as are her extremely liberal views for the times she lives in:
“Isn't it wonderful to think of all the things to discover? It just makes me feel glad to be alive – it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half as interesting if we knew everything about everything. No, there would be no more imagination, right?”

Anne wasn't always Anne of Green Gables. This title was offered to him late and, somewhat, by a game of chance that seemed to laugh at it. Orphaned as a child, she was unable to find a place of her own, being thrown from one family to another, used as a housekeeper or nanny for children, and later, in an orphanage that seems to her the worst nightmare lived until then, although life had not been kind to her at all.

6
But at some point, the brothers Marila and Mathew Cuthbert, elderly, unmarried people who want a boy to help the farm, decide to adopt and ask a third person for this. This confuses the jars and the account at home does not match the one at the fair, as the little boy turns into a freckled little girl with red hair, with a big mouth, but categorical in what she says and with big words always at her side, a little strange, but by no means negligible, which the man does not bear to leave at the station when he realizes the confusion.

7
The plan is to keep her overnight and take her back to the orphanage the very next day, but the little girl's bubbly personality and a bubbly cherry branch won't let Marila leave her there alone, and she brings her home, because , definitively, this child is what the woman could never be:
“There are so many different Annes in me. Sometimes I think that's why I'm such an annoying person. If I was just the only Anne, it would be so much more comfortable, but it wouldn't be half as exciting."

8
A series of more or less humorous adventures, emotions as well as life-long friendships follows, as the novel follows Anne's life from the age of eleven until she becomes a wise, ambitious, fighting and extremely loyal young lady, prepared to always be with their loved ones and live their lives to the fullest.

9
If you're like me and haven't met Anne yet, I say don't miss the opportunity and give her a chance. You won t regret! He's the friend you need when you're having a hard time and the one who cheers the most for your successes. And it overflows with optimism and love of life, which you more than likely borrow and acquire from reading.
Anne of Green Gables is a delightful novel about family, friendship, love of people and life, and finding your place in a community.
