This book is dedicated to Dr. Bates's Advanced Expository Writing class.

Kaylee is a bright, fearless 7 year old girl from Georgia. She lives with her mom and her 3 horses Raindrop, Odin, and Xanadu.

Kaylee was very close to Xanadu, who has been her sidekick since her mom bought her from an auction when Kaylee was 3.

    Kaylee told her mom that she wanted to go on a trail ride with Xanadu. Her mom said yes and helped Kaylee get ready. 

    "Make sure you stay on the right trails," her mother yelled after her. Kaylee said bye and said she would be home before dark.

As Kaylee and Xanadu trotted through the woods, the unstoppable duo got a little bit distracted by a beautiful swarm of butterflies. Before they knew it, they had taken a wrong turn and wound up in a place they had never been.

    "This doesn't look like anywhere we have been before, Xanadu," Kaylee stated. "I wonder what cool things there are here."

    Kaylee was not allowed to go into town alone or leave the family property. She knew her mother would be angry with her, but how could she let her curiosity build up inside her.

    As Kaylee and Xanadu walked through the town, she began to notice all the people and thought about where they were going. 

    "There are so many places to go!" Kaylee said cheerfully, "Come on!"         Kaylee began to skip down the street with delight with Xanadu galloping after her.    

As the duo made their way through the streets, Kaylee began to notice more and more people laying down on the side of the road. The thought of Kaylee being alone without Xanadu or her mother upset her.

"We need to go back. I don't want mom to worry about us." Kaylee told Xanadu.

The two turned around and began to start the journey home. Because they didn't know the way home, Kaylee decided to stop in at a gas station to get directions.

As the pair approached the gas station, Kaylee noticed an older gentleman alone that had a small kitten with him. Kaylee always wanted a cat, so she decided to ask if she could pet it.
