I dedicate this story to my wonderful family, friends, and everyone in between.

I stepped off the bus, and it started driving away, leaving me at my home for a long winter break. I was filled with excitement because Christmas is the best time of year.

Each Christmas we try and go somewhere fun. This time we were going to Philidelphia for Christmas Eve, and then coming back to bake the Neighbors cookies.

It was the 23rd, two days before Christmas, and instead of going to school, I ended up staying home.

The day was going well, my parents were upstairs working while my brother and I relaxed spending the day doing whatever we wanted, until…

We lost power.

For a couple of seconds, I just sat there confused. All of a sudden I heard a faint groan, it was our generator powering some of our house back up. I then looked around for a flashlight and tried to find out what happened.

Outside I could see gusts of wind blowing through our yard, a tree must have fallen over on the power lines knocking out our house from the grid.

I heard footsteps coming from upstairs and then my parents called us up. They told us the unfortunate news that it was too cold to go to Philadelphia. It was a shame, except I know I wouldn’t want to go if it was below freezing.

The power was scheduled to come back sometime overnight so I went to bed happy. I always knew that things could be worse.

I woke up in complete darkness, and when I flicked on the light switch the lights wouldn’t glow. Luckily we still had our pellet stove keeping the house warm.

At breakfast, my Mom didn’t want us to sit around in our house all day, so my brother suggested we go to the theater to see some movies.

So we got in the car and started driving. It must have snowed overnight because it was blowing all over the place, but it didn’t stop us, and even though it wasn’t nearby we still made it.

As we stepped into the movie theater, no one had the same idea because it was deserted. We got our popcorn and sat down to watch a movie.

The popcorn was buttery and delicious, I don't know why we didn't come here originally, but for the next couple of hours I was happy.

After the movies, we decided to make a surprise stop at the supermarket, my mom needed some things so we all went inside.

Because we didn't have any power, we couldn't make any treats for any of our neighbors.

But as we passed the bakery, we all thought of the same idea. Even though we couldn't make cookies we could always buy them.

We eventually made it home and my Dad checked on the generator. He found the unfortunate news that the generator was almost out of fuel.
