It was my summer vacations going on, so I thought, "Why not me and my friend go to a vacation to spend some time?" We decided to go to the Amazon Rainforest. We travelled to South America and reached the rainforest. It is about 6.7 million Sq Km and is the largest rainforest in the world. It was very dark and thick as there were many layers of trees above us. Before we came here, I read a book about the Amazon Rainforest in which it said about the Amazon Rainforest.

Types of layers
There are 4 different layers in the Amazon rainforest.
Which are as followed:
Emergent layer
The topmost layer is the Emergent Layer. The trees are like umbrellas that rise above the thick forest. They receive a lot of wind, sunlight and rain. Not many animals hang out in this layer. Birds like Eagles and parrots live in this layer but the bird which fascinates me the most is The Harpy Eagle.

Look Sarthak, it is a Harpy Eagle. Come look at it.
Oh wow! That is a pretty big Eagle over there. Do you know anything about it?
Yes, I do, Harpy Eagle is the largest American bird.
It is about 1 meter tall, and its wingspan is 6 feet wide. It likes to hunt sloths, monkeys and birds.

Canopy layer:
The canopy layer is where most plants and animals live. It is like a thick roof made up of tree branches and vines. Many trees are covered with vines and epiphytes. Epiphytes are plants that grow on top of other plants. Most of the rainforest's fruits, flowers and seeds are found in this layer.
With so much food in this layer, it makes sense that animals hang out here so that they are safe from the predators from underneath. One of the animals that I met was the Howler monkey. It screamed so loud that it deafened me and my friend's ears, but howling is his job otherwise other animals might come to their territory.
The Understory:
In the understory small trees ferns and plants grow. It is almost pitch black in this layer as very little sunlight comes because of the thick leaves of the canopy layer. Not many animals live hear such as poison arrow frogs, snakes slithering through branch to branch as well as Jaguars.

Did you here that Aditya, I think it's a Jaguar.
Then we must run!!

The Jaguar
The Jaguar is the largest cat in the Amazon rainforest. It is about 8.5 feet long and weighs 136 kilograms. It can not only walk, but it can also run, climb, swim and hunt fish.
Sometimes when it gets really famished, it kills Caimans which is an animal of the alligator species.
We don't really want to mess with him, do we?!
