Family traditions are some of the best there is and it may come as no surprise that another story is shared between our family again.
A story which allows us to dream and enjoy the simplicity of something we can all admire, a rainbow. No matter where you are in the world, if you see a rainbow hopefully you will now think of our grandpa telling this tale.

It was a funny sort of day in Buttercup Meadow. Mary sat beneath her favorite apple tree, accompanied by Blackie, the witch's white cat. Blackie had strolled up the lane, as he often did, for a friendly chat with Mary. A gentle drizzle had started, which is why they were under the apple tree. Suddenly, the sun burst through the clouds, casting its rays of sunlight upon Buttercup Meadow, and creating a large, vibrant rainbow in the sky. The end of the rainbow touched down right in the middle of the field.
"Look at that," exclaimed Mary. "Isn't it lovely?"

"Yes," replied Blackie. "Did you know that the fairies' treasure is said to be buried at the end of every rainbow?"
"I've heard about that," said Mary. "Shall we go and see if we can find it?"

Blackie nodded, and they both ventured out from under the tree, making their way towards the center of the field. Within minutes, armed with pieces of wood, they began digging at the bottom of the rainbow.
The soft, rain-soaked ground made their progress steady, and soon they had dug quite a deep hole. However, they found no trace of any treasure.
"It seems the story might not be true," observed Blackie. "Perhaps it's at the other end of the rainbow."
"You're right," agreed Mary. "But how can we get there? It's miles away, across fields, towns, and water."
"What if we climb the rainbow and slide down the other side?" suggested Blackie.

"Do you think it can hold our weight?" asked Blackie cautiously.
"Let's try," decided Mary. With determination, she began climbing up the rainbow. It proved to be a sturdy rainbow, its colors shining brightly.

Before long, Mary had ascended quite a distance up its gleaming slope.
"Come on, Blackie!" she called out. "It seems safe."
Blackie cautiously joined Mary on the rainbow, using his climbing skills to keep up. Though he had nine lives, he didn't want to risk losing any of them needlessly. To his relief, he found the rainbow to be a secure path and quickly caught up with Mary. Together, they climbed higher and higher until they reached the very top.
From this vantage point, they could see the entire countryside spread out before them.
"Isn't this lovely?" marvelled Mary.
"Yes," agreed Blackie, looking all around at the magnificent view.
Eventually, they started down the other side of the rainbow.
Going downhill proved more challenging than climbing up, and they started slipping uncontrollably.
The rainbow felt like a brightly sloped slide in a fun fair. No matter how hard they tried to slow down, they kept going faster and faster down the slope.

They could see the ground getting closer and closer. Before they knew it, they found themselves sliding off of the rainbow, rolling over and over, head over heels across another field.

Finally, they came to a stop in a pile, one on top of the other.
After helping each other up and brushing off the dirt, they looked around at where they were.
"Look, Blackie! There's the end of the rainbow," exclaimed Mary.
"Come on, let's see if there's any treasure," she giggled excitedly.
They walked over to the rainbow and began digging.
Before long, they uncovered a big pile of gold, rubies, emeralds, diamonds, and many other precious jewels.
"Look at all these," gasped Mary.

They sat looking into the hole, not noticing behind them a little girl with wings, just like a butterfly.
"Please don't take any," she said at last. Startled, Mary and Blackie turned around quickly.
"Who are you?" asked Blackie in surprise.
"My name is Annabelle," revealed the fairy. "It's my duty to guard the treasure and ensure none of it is taken."
"But who does it belong to?" inquired Mary.
"It belongs to all the fairies in the world," explained Annabelle.
"They bury it all around the world so that when it rains and the drops touch the jewels, the water and the warm rays of sun form a lovely rainbow, because all of the beautiful colours from the jewels shine out into a big ark. The fairies do this to make the world more colourful and pretty."
