Welcome to the Taiga!
Taigas are located to the north of the
equator but not too north. Here, there
are only two seasons. There are long,
cold winters and short,dry summers.
That is enough to thaw the ground!
There are patches of permafrost and
there are also bogs and lakes at Taigas.
The temperature average range is -10*C to 14*C.The average
annual precipitation is 35-75 cm.The soil in Taigas are low in
nutrients.Trees don't lose their leaves to retain energy. The
dark color of trees aid in photosynthesis.Animals have
seasonal coats and dense fur because of the climate. Some
animals hibernate through the winter.Others, migrate to a
warmer place.

Deciduous Forest!
As you may already know, Georgia is a
Temperate Deciduous Forest.Temperate
Deciduous Forests are located just
above the equator.There are four
distinct seasons.Moderate winters,
blooming springs,warm summers,and
breezy falls.The temperature average
range is 6*C to 28*C.The average
annual precipitation is 75-125 cm.Due to
the year round precipitation, the soil is
very fertile and rich in humus.Deciduous
Trees in the forest adapt to the
changing weather by losing their leaves
or changing the color of their leaves.
Animals adapt by hibernating or using
camouflage to avoid predation.

rainforest!
Tropical rainforests are located
right at the equator or just below
it.There are no seasons here.It is
hot and wet year round.The
average temperature range is 20*C
to 34*C.The average annual
precipitation is 200-1000 cm.
Tropical rainforests have poor soil
due to organic matter being used
up quickly.Plants have large leaves
to compete for light.Animals don't
hibernate nor migrate because the
weather doesn't get cold.Animals
are active year round. Many live in
tree canopies.

Tundras are usually found in the
northern hemisphere. Tundras have
long, cold winters, and short,
soggy summers. In the summer,
Tundras have 24 hours of sunlight, and in the winter, they have
24 hours of darkness! Can you imagine being with no light a
whole day? The average temperature range is -26*C to 12*C.
The annual average precipitation is 35-75 cm.Tundras have
poor soil which limits the plant height. The plants grow low to
the ground to conserve energy. The animals migrate and the
insects have natural antifreeze. Most of the animals have thick fur
because of the cold weather.

Deserts are located between
the 30* north latitude and 30* south.
Although deserts don't have true seasons,
many scientists doubt it.They have
extremely low precipitation having less
than 25 cm a year!Deserts have severe
temperatures ranging from 7*C to 38*C.
Deserts have soil that is rich in minerals,
but poor in organic matter.Plants store
water in tissues, and in modified leaves.
They have taproots that are as long as
20-30 ft long! The plants are specialized
in photosynthesis.They open their pores
at night. Animals have concentrated urine
to conserve water.Many animals are
nocturnal and loose body heat easily.

Tropical Savanna!
Tropical Savannas are usually
located a bit south of the equator.
There are two distinct seasons.
Long, dry winters, and hot, humid
summers.In the dry season, the
temperature range is about 34*C,and in the
wet seasons the temperatures range is about 16*C.
The average rainfall is 50-150 cm.The grass is resistant
to fire, and their roots help retain nutrients. It is compacted
with fertile soil.In the dry seasons, grasses turn yellow.
Many trees lose leaves due to lack of rain.Animals migrate
during the dry season. Herbivores usually travel in herds
to avoid predation.
