     It was a cold Saturday morning. A teenage boy 

named Gavin had just finished his daily run. As he 

jogged up his driveway he noticed something playing in 

his mothers flower bed. He got closer and saw that it 

was a cat. He bent on one knee and began to call it 

over. Curious, the small cat walked over to Gavin. The 

cat meowed and brushed it's head on Gavin's knee. 

Gavin noticed a collar and saw that the cat had a name. 

Shadow. 

Gavin decided to take Shadow inside his 

house to show his mom. She said he 

had to try to find the owner before he 

could keep the cat. Gavin didn't want to 

lose Shadow but he knew it was the 

right thing to do.

Gavin searched the neighborhood 

asking people if they had lost a cat. No 

one said that Shadow was theirs. He put 

up posters on telephone poles to try and 

find the owner.  

A few weeks passed and still no one 

claimed Shadow. During that time, 

Gavin and Shadow became best friends. 

They went everywhere together. 

Then one day Gavin got a phone call.

The man told him that Shadow was his 

cat. They were going to meet at a store 

so Shadow could go back home.
