Mae typically spends her day sleeping while her owner is at work. She curls up on the couch with her favorite blanket that feels as soft as a million feathers!

Today, however, was different. Mae couldn't sleep! Even laying on the comfiest blanket ever, she could not fall asleep. So, she decided to wander into the kitchen.

In the kitchen, Mae realized her human left some treats out...it was cupcakes! She loves cupcakes!

Mae counted the cupcakes in the kitchen. 1, 2, Only 2? She wished she had DOUBLE the amount of cupcakes. How many cupcakes would she have? 

Mae closed her eyes and sighed, wishing there were more cupcakes.

When Mae opened her eyes, she was so shocked she jumped so high in the air she touched the ceiling! The amount of cupcakes doubled--there was 4!

Mae ate all 4 cupcakes. Delicious! She still wasn't tired, so she decided to go outside to find her favorite ball.

When she went outside, Mae couldn't believe what she saw! Her favorite ball...but it multiplied! There were so many she couldn't even count them!

Mae noticed the balls were in two, even groups. She counted how many balls were in one group. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. Hmm...if there are 6 balls in a group, and the two groups have the same amount, how many are there in total?
