A long, long time ago there lived a farmer and his wife. They were very poor and lived with their farm animals, a small hen named Freckle, a fluffy lamb named Daisy, a plump pig named Pebble and a big cow named Hulk. The animals lived in a small, dirty barn next to the tiny cottage that belonged to the farmer and his wife. Due to all the dirt and grime a rat named Rex came to live in the barn. 

The farmer stored his grains in a corner of the barn. So, every night Rex used to creep out from his hole and feast on the grains in the barn. The thick dirt in the barn covered Rex's tracks, so the farmer never figured out that Rex lived there. Whenever he feasted on the grains, he shared a few with all the other animals in the barn and befriended them. The friendliest of them all was Daisy, the lamb. 

One day, the farmer decided to clean the barn along with his wife. As they raked inside, they were surprised to find evidence of Rex living there. They were not at all happy about this, so that night before going to bed, they decided to set a trap to try and catch Rex. A little while later, Rex crept out to feast as usual. Alas! he got caught in the farmer's trap and realized his life was in danger.

Rex decided to ask for help. Daisy is the nicest, she will definitely help me, thought Rex. Boy, was he wrong! “Daisy, please help” he shouted. Daisy woke up from her sleep and walked up to Rex. Looking at the trap, she bleated, “I realise that you are paying the price for your mistake. Didn’t you know that you shouldn’t steal?" That said, she walked off not willing to lose another moment of her sleep.

Rex then called Freckle for help. “Freckle, I am in big trouble. Please get me out of here” he said. Freckle ran as fast as she could to the barn. She stopped as soon as she saw the trap. She scratched the surface of the trap and said, “I am afraid this would hurt me. I am not silly to be caught helping you. I enjoy the freedom that I have now and I certainly don’t want to end up like you” she said and scurried away.
