         Hi there!   My name is Fred.   I live in a 

glass cage in my owner’s room.   His name is 

Mr. Sean.  

       He buys me so many cool things for 

my home.   The nicest thing I have is a 

spin wheel for exercise so I do not get too 

chubby.   Funny thing is though, sometimes 

when I am not paying attention I lose my 

balance, stop running, and get caught up in 

the wheel and spin around and around and 

around.   I think I do about twenty flips before 

the wheel stops, and then I am really dizzy.

       Mr. Sean buys me other things too 

but I usually just chew them up and spit 

them out.   See, my home is filled with 

this stuff called Megazorb.   It is the base 

of my cage.   It is this really fluffy stuff I 

lay on and burrow myself down into 

because we gerbils love to be comfy!   My 

cage is located in the corner of his room but 

a couple of feet away from me is a window.  

I can see outside to the front yard just great.  

This keeps me occupied during the day 

because I can watch all the cars and people go 

by.

There is one thing I am really good at and I 

will let you in on my secret.   Since I do not 

sleep much, I am a very good watch-gerbil for 

Mr. Sean.  

What?   Have you never heard of one before?  

There are watch-dogs, so why can’t there be 

watch-gerbils?   I am the most watchful gerbil 

there is on this planet; I deserve my own 

nickname.
