Hi, I’m an Emperor Penguin, the biggest type of 

penguin in the world. I’m Wally, and my wife 

Wanda waddled into the water a few minutes 

ago. She went to get food to regurgitate as a 

food source for the almost hatched baby 

Emperor Penguins. I was sitting there on the 

eggs when I got cold. I was not in a colony like 

most Emperor Penguins, because our colony 

split up during a snowstorm. Also, since I’m 

living in the tundra, sometimes it gets down to -

60° F here. I went to find something to warm 

me up besides penguins. But this was a big 

mistake.

When I got home with a gas heater, my eggs 

were gone. I looked around and saw a leopard 

seal carrying my eggs away. I knew the only 

chance of getting the eggs back was one out of 

two thousand billion trillion so I was doomed. I 

had seen a ton of leopard seals nesting by a 

place I named ‘Danger Cove’ so I had hardly 

gone there. After all, they are my main 

predators. My heart was pounding my chest with 

a hammer. It was about to have a jail break and 

run away. I thought and noticed that the only 

possible way of the eggs not being eaten was if 

the leopard seals had lots of other food and I 

got the eggs back today. I had to do something.

It was pretty far to Danger Cove, so I decided to 

slide there.   It is fun and also fast. I zoomed my 

fastest I've ever zoomed towards Danger Cove. I 

was proud of myself for being so brave when I 

noticed I was going the wrong way. A slope 

changed so I was about 100 yards away from 

Danger Cove. I looked up and saw that the sky 

was full of thick gray fabric. The snow fell as fast 

as a peregrine falcon at top speed. I was 

constantly trying to stay on top of the snow while 

going towards Danger Cove. I saw a leopard seal 

take my eggs out to the top of the snow. This 

leopard seal had no other food and was a football 

field away. This was my time, the most important 

moment of my life. I just hoped I didn’t fail.
