Chapter one, welcome
“Wooooow,” Nyx twirled around in the spacious guest room, plopping down on her back atop the huge bed. Sadie watched from the doorway, amused at the girl’s childish antics. “How old are you?” Sadie asked, out of pure curiosity. Nyx sat up with a mischievous grin. “How old do you want me to be?” Sadie watched as Nyx’s porcelain face shifted. Soon, an elderly man was standing in front of Sadie.
Sadie yelped, and Nyx turned back into Nyx. “You-you’re a shapeshifter,” Sadie stuttered, her heart pounding. Nyx bowed. “In the flesh.”
“NNNNYYYYYXXXXX-” “That’s my cue.” Nyx ran off towards Chene’s voice, leaving Sadie alone. Sadie blinked, watching Nyx leave. Her pet Chromafluff (a rainbow colored squirrel-like animal), Annie, jumped onto her shoulder and snorted. “Hey, boy.” she scratched his head, and he purred. “Wonder what Chene is calling Nyx for… I should probably go make sure they don't burn the house down.”
Amethyst pulled a shocked Nyx away from the hungry flames, and Serapheile began stamping it out with their foot. The flames died out, and Serapheile turned their piercing gaze on Chene. “YOU DON’T JUST PLAY WITH MATCHES!” They screeched. Chene backed up as Serapheile advanced, pressing her against the wall. “You are a stupid little fairee,” Serapheile hissed, but Chene’s face unexpectedly broke into a grin. “Are we about to kiss?” Chene asked. Serapheile shoved Chene with an indignant yelp. “This is what I mean! You take nothing seriously!” They rounded on Sadie, and Sadie noticed with a grin that their face was flushed. “If you had any common sense, these trespassers would be out our door.”
Before Sadie could reply, Serapheile stormed out of the room. Amethyst grabbed Chene’s hands and squealed. “They were blushing!” Chene pulled away. “Please. I almost lit them on fire.” Sadie felt bad for the one-winged fairee, she had fallen for the last person to love her back.
Serapheile stormed through the house, mostly mad at no one but themself. But also that cocky fairee and her annoying shapeshifter friend. But mostly themself.
This weird churning in their stomach made them want to barf, and it didn’t help when Zage turned his mismatched, concerned gaze on them.
Chapter two, a walk with Sagie
Sadie shot an apologetic glance at the three girls, then walked out of the house to find Zage. Annie hopped after her, occasionally trying to catch the butterflies fluttering around the meadow. She spotted Zage waiting for her, leaning on a nearby willow tree. Sadie stopped for a moment, to admire the meadow (and maybe how handsome she thought Zage looked with the sunlight falling on his wings), before picking Annie up and continuing towards him. He smiled when he noticed her, “Oh, hi! I was looking for you… I hope Serapheile wasn’t much of a problem in there, they seemed pretty annoyed at someone or something when they walked out. Anyway, how are you?”
chapter three, roses
Sadie walked along the trail to a hidden cove deep within the forest that she and Zage met in, Zage walking beside her. “So…” Zage twitched his tail. “Hm?” Sadie glanced at him. “Happy birthday!” He smiled at her. “Wai- OH MY GOSH, I FORGOT ABOUT MY OWN BIRTHDAY.” Sadie giggled. Zage took his other hand out from behind his back, holding a light-cyan rose in his hand. “Um, I wasn’t sure what kind you would like so I just grabbed one-” “I LOVE IT!” Sadie shrieked, making Zage jump. She smiled so wide she worried her face might split open. He grinned, placing the flower in her hand. She put it up to her nose, then whispered to him, “Thank you…” “You’re welcome! Now, back to what I was saying…”
“This is crazy! Five seconds ago, I was single! Now I’m-” “Shhh…” Zage laughed. “We should probably head back.” Sadie sighed. He was right. Nyx and Chene had probably already burned the house down.
Chapter four, the witch
Selene NightShade chuckled to herself, watching Zage and Sadie through her crystal-ball. She stood, and walked over to her bookshelf. “Hm….” She pulled out an old leather book, then hesitated before putting it back and sighing. She grabbed her staff, tapping it on the ground and teleporting to the demon territory. Selene walked toward the center-town, aka the marketplace of their city. She started to walk quickly toward the produce, but suddenly… “Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry!” Selene sat on the ground, tripped by a blue demon around her age. “Oh, uh… I forgive you, Mister…?”
“Zephyr. NIce to meet you…” “Selene. The fate witch.” She smiled at him. Zephyr blushed, then covered his face with his hand and reached out his other hand to help her up. She grabbed it, standing up. “Thank you.”
Zephyr gazed uncontrollably at Selene walking away. He shouldn’t be feeling this way for a fate witch, they aren’t allowed to fall in love. Besides, he already had a boyfriend… Zephyr walked back to his house. “Ember???” he called, glancing around at the dark entryway. A red demon ran over, “Hello, love!” Ember was very strict around every other demon, especially the young ones he trained, but being Zephyr’s boyfriend, he was a loveable goof. Zephyr sighed, “Hey… uh…” “yea?
chapter five, the witch pt2
Selene walked swiftly down the bare street. She huffed. That boy was… cute? But she wasn’t supposed to fall in love. Fate witches weren’t allowed to… She rubbed her head. “Don’t worry about it, Selene, nothing to worry about! Just don’t think about him…” she muttered to herself. Of course, after she spoke aloud, her thoughts immediately swarmed to him. “Shut up.” She mumbled. Selene glanced back down the road, stopping for a moment. She admired the place; the twinkling blue and red lights, the dragon-scale shaped roof shingles, the shiny pebbles on the roads… It reminded her of her brother. Even if he had turned out to be a bad person, she still missed him. Even she wouldn’t be able to change his fate.
Chapter six, In All Their 140 Years…
Serapheile wandered the house, their footsteps quiet on the worn floor. Zage and Sadie had left a while ago, Nyx and Gazebo were bonding over their love for pranks, Amethyst went for a fly, and that little fairee was nowhere to be found. The silence was nice, really- although it let Serapheile’s imagination take dark turns. Whenever they closed their eyes, Malachi’s seemed to be staring back. Serapheile sighed, walking past one of the bedrooms. The annoying little fairee’s face filled their mind. What the heck? That was random. They shook their head, trying to clear it, but a soft sob made it swirl again.
“It’s really cute,” they said softly, smiling despite their attempts for a neutral expression. “He’s not the only thing that’s cute in here,” Chene burst out, looking at Serapheile from under her long eyelashes. Her face turned red like she wished she hadn’t said that. Serapheile’s burst into flames as well. Oh my stars. She did not just call me cute. She did not just call me cute. SHE DID NOT JUST CALL ME CUTE. “I-I need to go,” Serapheile stuttered, running out of the room. Chene sat on her bed, cursing herself for being so stupid and hasty.
At this rate, Serapheile would never love her back.
chapter seven, avery
Avery glanced around. She was sitting atop her mare, Cassie, in a dark, deep forest. “Ethan?? Where’d you go?” She nudged Cassie forward, going deeper into the forest. She had been racing her older brother, Ethan, and somehow gotten here, as if she had teleported. Before she had gotten to this weird in-between space, she had seen a bright, golden light… What was happening?? A rustling of branches ripped through the trees, and Avery’s head snapped toward the sound. “Hello?” The shadows seemed to be strangely stretched, like they were reaching for her with gnarled claws. Avery shivered as ice crept up her spine. Cassie whined nervously, kicking up her legs, but not enough to throw Avery off. “Shhhh,”
Cassie had stopped bucking, and gently nuzzled the new person’s cheek. They looked up at Avery. “I’m Chi,” they said with a faint Asian accent. “Nice to meet you, péngyǒu,” they spoke rapidly. Avery blinked at them. She wasn’t on Earth anymore.
Chapter eight, antonious
“Where are we?” Avery asked, looking around. Chi grinned, revealing razor sharp canines. “Welcome to Planet Unknown, péngyǒu. I don’t think anyone’s on this one.” Avery groaned. “Well, then how did you get here?” Chi laughed at Avery’s question. “Portals, duh.” They patted Cassie’s nose, and she nickered. Avery sighed. “Right. Because that’s completely normal.” She looked around. Maybe they could find a space port… “Wanna teleport back?” Avery looked over at Chi. “You could do that?” “Sure!” Chi grinned. “It’s easy. I just need the name of the planet you wanna head over to.” Avery studied the tiny person. Avery felt her face brighten, “Any planet?” Chi shrugged. “Yeah, I guess so.”
