Once upon a time, there was a frog, his name was Charlie. He had wandered a few miles away from home. He knew his family was leaving soon, but wanted to explore the huge lake.
When he arrived back home though, his family was nowhere to be found. He looked behind the trees, in every room, and near the rocks. Nothing. They had left without him.

He went to Mr. Jelp, the turtle. Mr. Jelp had said he'd seen Charlie's family go a few miles to the left. They had never gone that way. So the young frog wanted to make sure.
Charlie then went to Mrs. Keliken, the rabbit just a few places over. He asked her if she had seen his family same as Mr. Jelp. She had. But, she said they had gone to the right.

At this point, Charlie didn't know which way to go. He had to ask the most trusting person he knew. Mr. Chelk, who was a part of the other frog family. Mr. Chelk said he had talked to them.
Mr. Chelk said they had gone left a few miles, then right. "They should be at the Carston Pond," he said. Charlie went off that way. But on the way, he ran into someone.

It was Bethany, his mom! But where were the rest he wondered. He asked his mom, and she explained how she went for flies, and the next thing she knew they were gone.

They'd decided to ask several people before going ahead. Up ahead they found another surprise. Charlie's sister and Bethany's daughter, Karen. She was on a lilypad.

Karen explained how she went to play on a few lilypads. She hadn't done that in a while, she wanted to have some fun. Karen had turned around, and the twins and their dad had just left.

They went on to ask even more of their friends if they had seen the rest of their family. Charlie was getting upset. Not because he couldn't find his family. But, because apparently, no one knew what day it was. It was Charlie's birthday.
