This is Allie the Atom and her friends. Allie has three 

best friends named Eddie Electron, Penny Proton, and 

Nick Neutron. They're all here to introduce themselves to 

you!

"Hi, I'm Allie the Atom! I am the tiniest little spec 

of anything in the world. Atoms like me make up 

everything from ice cream to airplanes!"

"I'm Penny Proton, and I live inside of Allie! Don't tell 

the others, but I think she likes me best! Anyways, 

I'm a happy little proton. Like all protons, I have a 

positive charge. That's why I'm always so smiley!" 

"Hello. I am Eddie Electron. I'm always very sad, and 

I'm always afraid nobody likes me. But, Allie always 

tells me how I'm a huge part of her, and I guess that 

makes me feel better! I can't help being sad though, 

I'm an electron with a negative charge."

"Hi there, I'm Nick Neutron. I'm never happy or 

sad, I just go with the flow. I have a neutral 

charge, which means that it's not positive or 

negative!"

Allie's friends live inside of her in a special 

pattern. She has a middle, where many Nicks and 

Pennys live. Then, she has two rings around her 

where Eddies can circle around.

Allie's rings hold Eddie and his look-alikes. 

Different atoms have three rings since they have 

so many Eddie Electrons, but Allie only needs two. 

Inside of Allie, the electrons circle around a clump 

of Nick Neutrons and Penny   Protons.

"Now that you have learned about my friends and 

I, it's time for us to go back to work! So the next 

time you take a bite of that sandwich or write in 

your notebook, remember that atoms just like me 

are what make those things up!"
