Writing for 9-10 year old students 

- 3-4 chapters 

- 4-6 pages per chapter 

- Label chapter and name it appropriately 

Writing for 9-10 year old students

- 5-8 sentences per page

- 4-7 pages per chapter, 3-4 chapters 

- Write in a size 12/14 font

- One page picture, one page of text  OR occasionally two pages of text

- Keep font and picture (styles) consistent

Writing Historical Fiction

- You can highlight key words that are "viking" related and create a glossary (at the back of the book)

-  Use settings, time period, names, characters, clothes, toys, rituals, food, mythology etc to bring the Viking world to life for the students

Speech Dialogue 

“I think there is something moving in the bushes,” Suhani said, looking carefully in the direction from which the sound came.

“I can’t see anything!” said Sai.

“Perhaps we should turn our torches on,” whispered Issac.

“Okay, but let’s be really quiet.”

Reporting Clause after direct speech tells the reader who is speaking

Direct speech is carefully structured to help the reader follow the conversation. Every time there is a new speaker in the conversation, a new line is used.
