Childhood

    Charles Alderton was born on June 21, 1857 in Brooklyn NY, to parents Charles Alderton Sr. and Hephzebah Courtice. He was the eldest of 5 children, and his father was a doctor, which he always wanted to be as well. The Alderton family lived in New York for a while, until they moved to England.

  Education

    Once he had moved to England, Charles attended Framlingham College. He then moved back to the states and attended University of Texas, where he studied medicine.

Invention of Dr Pepper

    Charles worked at a pharmacist in Waco, which provided a soda fountain. Alderton had taken note that most customers were bored of the traditional flavors. Then, Charles began experimenting and created a drink called the Waco at the pharmacist. He then gave the formula to the owner of the pharmacist and named it Dr. Pepper. It was first introduced at the World’s Fair Explosion.

    Charles passed away on May 29, 1941. His invention also caused the invention of another famous soda, Coca Cola. Many people today drink Dr Pepper everyday and it is sold in almost every store or gas station in the U.S.
