For the ones who love traveling and can't stay at one place for too long, excited to face the new challenges that come along the way.

It was two days before Halloween when Ana, Abby, and Alex decided to have a sleepover at Abby's house. In the evening, when Ana and Alex came to Abby's house, her mom said "I'm going to a grocery store since it's getting late and we don't have enough food to make dinner today."
After she left, they were alone in the cottage in the middle of a spooky forest.
As Ana, Abby, and Alex are very caring, and responsible teenagers, they got a bit worried when Abby's mother didn't come home at dinner time, and she wouldn't answer her phone either!
After a few minutes of curiosity, Ana thought to try the door, in case her friend's mom was there at the door, unable to get in. Ana kept on urging to unfasten the door, but it wouldn't budge!
Then, Ana ran back to the living room to find only Alex there. Ana told Alex that the door wouldn't open. Not even ajar. Then Alex had the brilliant but obvious idea to call his parents so they could pick them up from this eerie cottage.
When his dad wasn't picking up his call, they got worried that they were stuck here forever! But then Abby came into the room and said she found some wood. "We could build a fire! It's really cold in my cottage, and we could use some warmth." Abby excitedly exclaimed.
"Wait. How do we get the wood? The door won't open. If we make a fire in the cottage, the fire could burn out the cottage, since your cabin is made of tree bark." Alex implied.
"The window is open. We can climb out of the windows and get some wood. It might take a while, though. I already gathered some wood,
but there are no more planks left in the clearing so we're gonna have to cut some more. Oh, and we also need some food. Let's go to the kitchen!"
"Alex, check the pantry. Abby, you're checking all the cabinets. And I'm checkin' the fridge. Alright?" Ana asked confidently.
When everyone got to work, there was a lot of racket. The metal utensils CLINGing; cabinets opening; plastic packages crunching; and the bowls and plates THAWNKing. It was so intense in the kitchen.
After what felt like hours and hours of searching, Abby, Ana, and Alex got so exhausted. "I found---canned goods---a few---chip bags---a couple---granola---bars, and a---LOT of---bottled---water. You---guys?" Alex said between breaths.
"In the cabinets, I found a bag of cookies, some chocolate, and
gummies. Ana?" Abby slowly answered.
"The fridge was mostly empty. I found some soup, ice cubes, a packet
of marshmallows, frozen fruits, and some cold water bottles," Ana replied.
"Oh well, I guess it's time to go and cut some wood. It's getting really cold here." Abby shivered.
They all got up from their uncomfortable seats and let Abby lead the way down a frightening hallway.
...
It was a small window, and it was rusted on the edges but they climbed through anyway. There they found two axes and a very small pile of wood planks. Not enough to make a fire. Not yet.
"There are only two axes and three of us. So I say, two of us chop the wood while the other gathers them all and puts them in this pile right over here." Abby thoughtfully suggests.
It seemed like a good, easy and solid plan, but it sure did take a lot of effort to learn to chop wood.
While they were working hard to cut wood planks, the clouds were getting darker and darker and heavier and heavier. Soon, it started to drip, then light rain, and in a few minuets it started to pour hard.
"Guys! Come here! Quickly!" Abby yelled. Alex and Ana scurried to where their worried friend, Abby, was. "Ana, Alex, help me get all the wood inside the house! If the wood planks get wet, we won't have a fire. Come on!"
As Abby, Alex, and Ana threw the wood into the cottage through the old window, it rained harder and harder. Until it felt like chunks of hard ice were falling from the sky right onto their bodies. After what felt like forever, the three kids finally finished protecting the heavy wood planks, they climbed back into the house, for there was nothing else to do. They couldn't run away in the jungle, because they could get lost pretty quickly, and there is no Wi-Fi. Ana and Alex couldn't go home either, because they didn't have the heart to leave their friend behind, and going out in the middle of the night wasn't such a good idea either. Even though Abby's little cottage was built around the edge of the forest, they couldn't leave because for some awful vines grew around the edges all around, leaving the only way out the cursed door.
...
After a while, when it stopped raining, Alex and Abby got a picnic blanket for the closet, while Ana
got the fire started. It didn't take long before all of them gathered around the fire real tight with the blankets wrapped around.
Hours and hours passed by until it was all dark outside. Not a single street lamp nearby, and not a single star in the sky.
It was getting windy out, and the fire was eating up the wood so fast, there was no more wood left to feed it. Soon, the fire would be out. They couldn't keep on cutting more wood because it was raining.
They decided to call it a night and head inside. Abby, Alex and Ana ate some gummies, chocolate, granola bars, cookies, fruits, and half a bowl of soup each. It was a lot to consume, but, there wasn't so much food. They had to split the food equally, meaning, 2-3 of every countable thing. So, not really a lot to eat.
Ana grabbed three water bottles when she was looking for the washroom, because the only washroom was down a creepy hallway. Real dark.
...
The three scared children settled in for a deep sleep in the living room, right next to the main door,
incase Abby's mother shows up later.
Soon they all fell asleep before they knew it, cuddled in extra layers of blankets.
...
It was early mourning when they woke up, the sunshine pouring into their eyes. Alex was first to rise up, so he decided to search the cottage in case Abby's mother came home. She never did. There were no signs of a coat, or shoes, or a bag of groceries anywhere. Not so much later Abby and Ana woke up, in search for Alex, for he wasn't in the living room.
Alex, sprinting into the main room, stopped infront of the girls, grasping for breath. "Ana, Aby, have---you-----seen----her? I--I--think---my eyes-----are deceiving----me."
Ana hadn't seen Abby mother anywhere near by and Abby was starting
get worried. Her friend ensured her that her mother was safe and they should spend the day doing what they were doing the day before. Abby agreed, it was best to keep her busy.
...
As the day wore on, the more serene Abby felt. They all watched a few movies to make time fly, and by the time it was morning the next day, the door unlatched itself. Giving them a fabulous excuse to leave the cursed, evil cottage.
Soon, Ana, Alex, and Abby dashed to the door as it opened itself wide. Abby leading the way, with Ana and Alex on her heels.
It was a dark spooky night. Halloween night. The very night everyone is forbidden to be seen outside. Being it the night the cursed ones are free. As in, ghosts, vampires, mummies, zombies, and the tremendously huge spiders.
The spiders are twice the size of humans, yet they are honest, and friendly beasts. The more the three ran toward the end of the island the more vampires they saw, and they looked blood-thirsty. They haven't had a decent meal in decades.
Ana decided it was a good idea to split up, so it would create a more clearer path. So the ran in different directions. Alex sprinted straight, Abby dashed to the right, and Ana jogged left, going in a zig-zag pattern. Ana was followed by ghosts, Abby by mummies, and Alex by vampires.
When they reached the shoreline, none of them were being followed. It took Ana, Alex, and Abby a while to find each other. an hour, really. Abby found an abandoned boat they could use.
The boat had vines that covered it, and it look old. Still, it was sturdy enough to hold them.
Rowing a boat is hard enough, but in the dark, it's worse.
Abby and Ana kept on looking back to the Island they once called home. It was sad, really really sad. They couldn't go back there, though, because it would seem like they abandoned their families and friends and everyone they knew there.
They'll understand, right? We didn't have a choice. Ana kept thinking. Ana loved her parents dearly, and she already missed them.
Aby started crying, since it was only Abby and her mom. She was concerned for her mother. Isn't she worried? Aby thought. She must be. She has to be.
While Ana and Abby kept looking back from time to time, Alex never looked back, not once. It was quite odd, Abby thought. Abby pushed the thoughts to the back of her head, because she had something else to worry about, like what they were going to eat.
Soon, when Alex was tired of rowing the old, tattered boat, he fell asleep near the bow and Ana took over. When it was morning, Abby started to row to sailboat, letting Ana rest for a bit. It was starting to tear apart, very slightly.
They decided to take turns rowing the boat. At night it was Alex, in to morning it was Abby, and in the evening it was Ana. It went on like that for three days. They were hungry and cold, and the old, crusty, boat was cracking a bit every time the fresh lake water splashes upon it's crafted surface. On the night of the fourth day, Alex yelled "Land!" when he saw it. Ana and Abby were never more happier to see land in the faint distance. Ana tried to get up but immediately fell backwards. Crashing into the dark lake.
Alex saw what happened and jumped in after her while Abby stood on the boat, ready to pull them out.
It was hard to find her in the dark, so he kept swimming and swimming. Going back to the surface a few times to report to Abby and breathe. The fifth time he dove under the water, he went really deep, so deep he couldn't see. Finding no point in risking his life when Ana could be gone now, Alex
searched a bit more and then began to swim back to the surface. While he was swimming back up, he felt hair on his fingertips. Out of curiosity, he reached out and realized it was Ana's hair. Then, he started swimming up with all his might.
...
Back on the boat, Abby was worrying for Alex and Ana. What's taking so long? she wondered. " What if something happened to them? And if He doesn't come back? Will I have to go alone?!" Abby said questioning the boat, daring her to speak. But the old boat just stayed as quiet as ever. Too quiet. As if waiting for something to happen. Abby turned around towards the front to see if they'd lost anything when Ana fell. They hadn't.
Sometime later, Alex came out to the surface, holding Ana tightly in case she would slip.
Alex pushed Ana to the boat with all the strength he had left, as Abby pulled Ana inside to the centre of the wooden watercraft when it stopped rocking side to side. Then she pulled Alex in. And he was soaked.
Abby checked if Ana's heart was still beating, then turned to look at Alex with a sorrow face.
"What?! Try CPR or something. Your mom's a doctor!" Alex cried. He wouldn't take the bad news well, he knew. Ana and Alex were friends since they were 3. She was like a sister to him.
Aby's eyes swelled up at the thought of her mother. She still missed her mom even though it didn't seem like she was worried.
"Sorry, I didn't mean it to come out like that. I'm just worried and upset." Alex apologized.
"I am too." Abby said as she tried to resurrect Ana. It didn't work. Then Abby spotted something on Ana's right arm. "Alex, what is this?" Fear rising in her voice.
As Alex took a good look at the red mark, Ana tried to think about what it could possibly be. Maybe a water-snake?
"Is it water-snake? Alex?" Aby asked.
Alex looked up at Abby, "It was a Dubios snake. The most deadliest water-snake." Tears ran down his cheeks.
"What?! Are you joking around?" Abby yelled, trying to process it all. She immediately remember the
day they met.
On a sunny day during lunch break, while Aby was reading a book, a few older kids came up to her. Teased her because of how she dressed, calling her names as other kids joined in. Then Ana came up to the big crowd and said, ''If someone bullied you for they way to guys use to dress, how would you feel? Don't do it again.'' With that, Ana came over to Abby and sat down next to her on the hard tarmac, asking if she was ok and what book she was reading. Abby remembered it as if it was yesterday. Then she remembered how much more Ana meant to Alex. "I'm so sorry, Alex." Abby said softly, trying to keep her voice from wavering.
Alex cried and cried and cried. When they reached the shore, they didn't know what to do with Ana's body, so they left her in the water and docked the boat at the beach.
Looking around, Abby saw a small cottage in the nearby clearing. Feeling a bit lost, she decided to go and ask the owner where they were.
"Well, the Lost Island of course!" the young woman replied.
Abby gave the lady a confused look. Soon, Alex was behind her, with a puzzled look on his face as well.
"Oh, you guys aren't from here? Well then, we have some serious work to do." the young woman said. "I'm Megan, who must you two be?"
"I'm Alex and this is Abby." Alex answered when Abby just stared at the woman. Completely oblivious.
"Come in, Abby and Alex. Please do come in." Megan insisted.
As Alex and Abby stepped into the house, they felt like they had stepped into a very different world.
At the other island, they weren't allowed to have painting or decorative items in their houses. If you did they'll kick you out. The chairs at Megan's house were cute and soft, and the couch too. A wave of fear washed over Alex's face, while Abby was really curious.
"Come, sit." Megan gestured to the soft and cozy sofa.
While Abby and Alex sat down, Megan went to get some tea.
...
A few days later, when Megan helped them understand the ways of the people here and how to trade. She also taught them how to live here.
In her words, "to live you must learn to trade."
The trading system was simple. You find someone to trade with, give them what they want, and then trade. If you don't have what they want, try to negotiate, if it doesn't work, walk away. Do not start an argument. Megan also said they had to build their own houses. Had to catch their own meat, grow their own food, and trade to get their own materials. If they catch meat and can't eat all of it, it's best to save or share. In some places, you will need money, which you can get by working. She gave them some coins to start off with, each of them worth 12 nobles (money).
When Alex and Abby walked out of Megan's gorgeous home, they knew what to do now.
First, they went to the forest at the east of the island and found a flat clearing near the south end of the island. It had a nice and peaceful view of the ocean, and the forest was nearby so they didn't need to walk far to get what they needed.
"Abby, do you happen to have an axe with you? We're gonna need one to chop wood." Alex said.
"I actually do, but it's in the boat. There's only one, Alex." Abby replied, with a look of question in her eye. "How about, since we need food, I gather wood planks and bring the here, and you find food in the jungle, like fruits. When you have a handful, go to the market at the centre of the market and see if they sell baskets. If they do, go trade the fruits for some so you can find more fruits and put them in the basket.Later, when I need a break, I'll eat an apple. I bet you you'll find apples."
"That sounds like a great plan, but why am I picking fruits? An how do I know if the fruits is poisonous or not?" Alex asked.
"Just stick to the fruits you know, and don't pick the pink, black, or purple berries. Didn't you work in the farm for two and a half years?" Abby said. "Anyways, let's get to work. We have a lot of thing to do."
As Alex and Abby separated ways—Abby going back to the boat for the axe, and Alex to the forest for the fruits—they didn't realize there was a beautiful orange animal listening to them very closely.
...
After an hour or so, Alex returned to the spot where the new house will be, sat down on the smooth sand and ate an apple from the filled basket he had with him. Later, Abby joined him.
"I think we should get building tomorrow morning, and find food for the rest of the day. I saw a hotel as I was walking to the main market.
Maybe we could stay there until we finish building. I still have a lot
of money left over from working back at the other island, and I checked, it's the same currency." Alex said.
"That sounds like a great idea. And I totally agree, but first, we need some good lunch. I can't live on just fruits. Let's go to the market, I bet some sells some decent food." Abby said excitedly. "Come on, let's see if we an trade these delicious fruits!"
Abby and Alex ran to the Meaters' Meat shop to see if they could trade the fruits for some meat. First, the cashier said no, but Alex began to beg and the 'main guy' came out to see what the fuss was about.
"James, what is wrong with you? Don't you see these are young kids? Give them the meat they want,
or you'll need to find another job!" the 'main guy' said.
"Sorry sir, I'll be better." James apologized. "Here you go, it's on the house. I'm sorry about earlier." James said as he gave Abby the food.
Abby stared at James and then thanked him. As Alex and Abby walked back to the clearing, Alex asked Abby how they were supposed to eat the raw meat. Abby said she knew how to cook it since she was a local chef for three years, and that she could do it as Alex gather wood for the campfire.
As Alex went to gather some wood, Abby started preparing to cook. Abby took 2 coins—24 nobles—from her pocket and bought a silver pan and a spatula with them. Then, Abby went to a shop that sold spices and got some amazing ones for 3 coins. Finally, she returned to the area and started to search for a stick.
Abby found a few sticks around the sand and beside the bushes. Then, she pulled a few rubber bands from her right pocket and tied the sticks together. It looked like four sticks at the bottom standing up, and five more sticks on top like a flat roof. It was sturdy enough to hold up the small silver pan. Abby set them down on the gentle sand and watch quietly at the peaceful sea. She noticed an
island not that far from where she was.
The island had a huge volcano in the front of the island, definitely not the island she came from. The island also had a small cave and bushes at the shoreline.
Abby wondered if anyone lived there. She wanted to see what crisis that island would hold.
A bit later, Alex came along bringing fire wood in a wooden box.
"I found a bunch of them at the other side of the island with a sign saying 'free give-away', so I took one to help me." Alex said when Abby looked confused.
"Where did you get the pan and the big spoon?" Alex asked.
"It's a spatula, and I gave one coin. I also got these spices for three coins. The pan was one coin. Start the fire so I can get cooking, Alex." Abby said.
"Aye." Alex jokes.
As they got to work—Alex getting a fire started and Aby laying out all the cooking materials on the sand—the cute orange animal was sitting very close by. Curiously gazing at the two working to do something he had never seen anyone do in a very long time.
When Alex got the fire started, Abby lit a stick with fire and placed it under the model she made with sticks. Then, she put the meat on the pan and the pan on the top of the model so the food cooks. Soon when the fire burns out, leaving ashes on the soft sand, Abby dumps the ashes in the water letting it dissolve, while Alex lights another stick on fire a places it where the old one used to be. Within thirty minuets, the food is cooked and Alex realizes they don't have plates and suggests they use the big leafs on the banana plants.
"That's the best idea you've had so far. Now go and get me banana leaf!" Abby cried.
As Alex ran to the banana plant for his life, Abby laughed so hard, it scared the orange animal and he jumped. Abby noticed the movement in the bushes near by and went to investigate.
As she got closer, the animal got scared, but with no other place to go, he stayed. Abby took a knee on the grass and said, "Come out, come out, wherever you are. We won't hurt you, you know. We'll have leftovers, so maybe you and your friends can finish it for us."
When he heard about food and his friends, he came out.
"Oh my gosh." Abby exclaimed, "Where did you come from? You poor thing, you really need help.
And what are you doing here?"
The animal was a foxfire fox. It was very cute with pointed ears, fierce orange eyes, and a long orange-yellow tail swishing side to side as the fox eyed the food on the pan.
Shortly, when Alex came back with a pack of four white plates, he backed up when he saw Abby was cuddling with an animal. A foxfire fox. Immediately, Alex remember what little he knew about those types of foxes. They could blow various types of red fire. Especially the dangerous ones. The tip of the fox's tail was bright red, indicating it could blow fire any second now.
"Abby! Be careful!" Alex yell to Abby.
Abby turned her face around to face him and said, "Alex, meet my new friend, Fury. Isn't he cute?! Come here, and pet him!"
"Abby, have you lost your mind? That's a foxfire fox. They can burn you to ashes!" Alex said as he carefully walked toward them.
"He just wants food, place to stay, and friends. We have that much, we can adjust."
"Okay, I guess. I mean, it sure would be very ordinary to live with a foxfire creature when everyone is
hunting them. Seems completely normal to me. You named this thing, already?"
"Alex. Be nice. Fury is hurt by your words. Also, he is not a thing. He is a living, breathing, wonderful creature. And, he has a name."
"You told him that. You really told him he is a wonderful creature? You know what they did to my mom. You can't do this, Abby."
"I'm sorry, Alex. But he wasn't there when that happened. You were two years old! It was thirteen years ago, Alex! You have let it go!" Abby pressed on.
"You can't tell me to let it go. You have no idea what it's like, without a mom. Because you have a mom. Oh wait, you mommy cares about you so much, she didn't even try to call you after we left. Did she. Who knows, if she was even going to get groceries? You have no idea what it's like, living without a mom." Alex cried out. His face full of anger.
Abby stopped petting Fury and bursted out in tears saying, "You have no idea what my mom is like." After crying out those words, she got up to her feet and ran randomly toward the jungle, with Fury on her heels.
