Hello, I'm Barış from Turkiye. We are 5 friends met at the ETwining project at our schools, me, Barış from Turkiye, Arina from Romania, Paz from Portugal, Pace from Italy and Eirini from Greece. We will meet at a youth camp in Greece. We are so excited because Greece is the cradle of democracy.

As a Turkish boy, I feel myself lucky to live in a democratic country like my friends because Turkey hosted many civilizations in ancient times and that's because we are tolerant enough for different cultures and also different ideas. Thanks to our great leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, we have lots of rights since 1923, when Turkish Republic was founded and both women and men had equal rights.

Pace decided to talk his friends about Italian democracy. He pointed out that Italy is widely considered a free country and a liberal democracy. Elections are free and fair while the government generally respects political rights and civil liberties. He said that Italy is a republic. In a referendum in 1946, Italians decided to change the system of government from a monarchy to a republic due to the monarchy's support for fascism.

Hi my friends, this is the symbol
of the Italian State.
The olive tree is the symbol of peace;
the oak, of vigor; the wheel, of work and progress. Italy, depicted by the star, is reborn to its new destiny in industrious peace and fruitful activities.

Arina said was from Romania. Democracy in her country is of recent date. They have democracy after the Revolution of 1989. Now they have a president elected for 5 years and a Parliament that they elect every 4 years. They have a lot to learn about democracy but the important thing is that they learn and want to live in a country that takes their opinions into account. Long live democracy!

Baris met Paz from Damaia, Portugal. Paz told him what is her experience with Democracy in her country:
"We celebrate this year the 50 years of Democracy in our country.
Everyone has the same rights, men, women, children.
We have public school, hospitals, we can study, work, give our opinion and choose our politics by free vote. In our school the classes have girls and boys from different nationalities and religions, we choose our class representant and vote for the Student Association. Our Education Ministry give us the possibilitie of spend 500euros to present a proposition that is voted by all students to improve our school.
Democracy is very important and we should care it!"
