The bean family was expecting a baby. Papa bean held Mama bean as they awaited the arrival of the new member of the family.
"What color will our bean be?" wondered Papa bean.
"Beans don't always take after their parents," Mama bean replied. "Our bean might be orange, blue, maybe even red!"
"What matters is that he will be ours," Papa whispered.

All of a sudden, Mama bean felt a tug.
She felt a little lump!
She felt her belly jump!
And then a loud PLOP!
There, under her quilt, was her little baby bean.

"It's a boy!" exclaimed Papa.
Mama gave her baby a kiss.
"I love you, little bean," she said.
They both looked down. Baby bean was not orange.
Or red.
Or blue.
Baby bean was, in fact, not a bean.
He was a peanut!
And Mama and Papa loved him all the same.

"What should we name our new baby?" asked Mama.
"What about Peanut?" asked Papa.
"Welcome to the family, Peanut." Mama smiled and held onto her baby tight.

As Peanut grew older, he realized he was different from the other beans.
He had to sit at a different table during lunchtime.

He had to wear a label announcing that he was a peanut whenever he played with the other beans.

Peanut felt sad. He didn't want to be different because of the way he was born.
He was tired of the tables.
And tired of the labels.
He wanted to be a regular bean just like everybody else.
