One week in the summer, I went to St. Louis 

to visit my family. During the day, when my 

aunt and uncle were at work, I went to a 

summer camp. I was excited yet nervous to 

go. I knew that I wouldn't know anyone there 

and this made me a little scared.  

Since I was going to spend a whole week in St. 

Louis, my aunt bought a box of pop-tarts of all 

different flavors for me to eat for breakfast. 

Every morning I picked a pop-tart and that's 

how I started out my day for the week.  

On my first day of camp, my aunt and I went 

to the front room to register and get set up for 

the camp. Upon arriving, I met a lot of new 

kids who were all nice and welcoming towards 

me. Although I was nervous and a little 

overwhelmed with the new situation, I quickly 

made friends. I joined a group of girls by a 

table and we started talking about Nebraska 

and the differences between us. They were 

nice and it was good to get acquainted with 

some new friends.  

On the second day of camp we went 

swimming in a lake. This was very 

exciting and I got to swim and play with 

my new friends that I made. I related this 

experience with other times in the 

summer when my family would got to 

Lovewell Lake. Even though it was a new 

situation, I took a plunge and I was very 

happy with the outcome.
