Once upon a time, there was a little girl named Lupita. Her and her family had just moved all the way from Mexico to the small town of Hesperia, California. They drove over 10 hours from Mexico to live in their new house. She did not know anyone at school and was very nervous to go her first day.

Lupita had two parents, Naty and Lupe. She also had a brother that was only 12 months younger than her. She was excited for this opportunity to go to school but still nervous at the same time. What if the other kids did not look like her? She was worried about that.

On the first day, Lupita was nervous. She talked to her mom to try to calm down.
What if no one wants to be my friend?
There will be plenty of kids who want to be your friend.

Lupita walked into her first class of the day, nervous as ever. As she walked in though, her teacher, Mrs. Lopez, greeted her kindly.
What's your name?
Lupita
We are going to have a lot of fun this year.
Lupita smiled at her.*
After talking with Mrs. Lopez, Lupita felt more comfortable in the class. She realized this year was going to be okay. Her next step was making some friends.

When Lupita finally sat down at her table, she introduced herself to some peers around her. Lupita learned she could make friends easily.

Hi, I'm Lupita. What's your name?
I'm Jason.
I'm Alex.
Can we hangout at lunch today?
That sounds like a good idea, replied Jason and Alex.
With the help of her parents, Mrs. Lopez, and new friends, Lupita realized she could in fact survive at this new school. It was a big change for her, but she knew she would be okay.

This is based on a true story. There are many other students like Lupita out there in the United States who were put in new environments and asked to thrive. Immigrant students who don't speak that much English need to be surrounded by teachers and peers who support them in their endeavors. I hope this story makes sense to whoever reads it. Lupita would end up becoming a successful teacher who is now in the place of Mrs. Lopez. Funny how the world works.
