There was a boy named Dan Macast and he lived in Italy. He had no family so he walked around from place to place. One day he saw this place with ashes. He then stumbled and hit the ground. Suddenly, a swirly blue portal came out and sucked him in.

    When the portal stopped, he looked around. There were people walking around in robes. He thought he was alone, and went to ask someone for directions, but when they saw him they said, "Why aren't you working now?" He was very confused and suddenly someone picked him up and brought him to a humongous house. When he was riding on the horse he saw dung. He then got thrown into the house. The people said, "Collect the dung and put it away."    

    When he was scooping dung he saw graffiti on the walls. He saw a fountain that he took to drink water, but he was stopped and told, "You can't have water till I say so." Dan was confused, but then he remembered that this is how poor people got treated in the olden days. He then figured out that the portal brought him back in time.

    He then saw this mountain, so he asked another poor person what it is. She said, "It is a mountain called Mt. Vesuvius. How didn't you know that?" He then looked and saw a crater at the top and told her, "That is a volcano." She laughed at him and said, "Could you annoy someone else?" Then she walked away. 

    It was time for him to take a bath, but there was only one, and many people were in it. He didn't like that, because he is very into privacy. He had to decide— be covered in dung or take a bath in front of people. He chose to take a bath and he hated it so much. He asked someone for the soap, but the person replied, "What is soap?" He then figured out it was just water. Which didn't help him feel better about the bath. He went to bed after he served the family. The bed was these planks of wood that were really rough.
