Once upon a time, there was a little girl named Avalon. She really, really, wanted a dog. But her parents' told her "no" because a dog would be too much. 

So she prayed every day to God to give her a dog, but as the years went by, but her prayers were never answered.

When Avalon was 21 years old she met a shih tzu puppy named Maxx at auntie Carol's house. 

Maxx was part of a puppy litter and he was the little runt.

But Maxx was different from the rest of his siblings, he was born with a health condition that made him slower than his siblings.

Because Maxx was slow and not like all the other puppies his age, his first family didn't want him anymore and brought him back to Auntie Carol's house.
