Poppy the Popsicle lived with her
Poppa and Momma in the Freezer
Community. She was almost in
kindergarten, and was very curious.
She was a tad careless, too. Once, she
was over by the Bread Oven Nursery,
and she stuck her little icy face near the
stove's flames - she just wanted to see
what would happen.

Her parents ended up taking her to the
Icy Hospital of Molecule Damage. You
see, all creatures in the Freezer
Community had something in them
called "molecules". These molecules
could have different speeds,
depending on the state of their carrier.
If an ice creature's molecules were
moving slowly, that was a good thing.

HOSPITAL OF
MOLECULE
DAMAGE

When their molecules moved slowly,
that meant that they would stay frozen.
If their molecules started moving a little
quicker, then that wasn't good. When
their molecules move to this state, they
start turning to a liquid...which is a
bad thing; they would be moved to the
Icy Hospital of Molecule Damage, into
the I.C.U.! However, it could get a lot
worse.

If their molecules started moving with
extreme speed, they would turn into a
gas! Once they were a gas, they were
invisible; nobody could help them!
They would just have to change back
into a liquid, somehow. Then,
someone would find them, and they
would be admitted into the Molecule
Hospital.

For a Popsicle to melt, heat energy
would have to be applied to the
Popsicle. Then, the Popsicle would melt
into a puddle of fruity slush. If even
more heat was applied, the slush would
evaporate, or become a vapor, a gas.
Then, the fruity vapor would condense,
or gather, into a cloud. After that, the
Popsicle would change back into a
liquid again, then a solid, due to

the cold. Basically, heat energy can
change the way a Popsicle's molecules
behave in a negative way. (Or so the
Freezer Community thought. To them,
melting was a severe, life-threatening
thing. They viewed it as the worst thing
that could ever happen in a Popsicle's
whole life.) Yeah, you can see the
problem with Poppy's curiosity.

One morning, Poppa told Poppy,
"Poppy, you must learn to be more
cautious and careful! You'll get hurt one
day!"
Poppy said, "I know, Poppa. I'll be extra-
special careful. Don't worry!"
Well, Poppy SAID she'd be careful. But
was she? Not exactly...

So here it was: Poppy's first day of
kindergarten at the Freezer Elementary.
Her parents were very anxious. Would
she be safe at school? Would the
teachers watch her, so that she
would stay out of trouble? WOULD
SHE EVEN SURVIVE?! This was
very hard on her parents. Poppy was
simply way too curious.

The amazing part: she survived. Not
only that, but she stayed out of trouble!
To good to be true? Yup, exactly right.
Well, Poppy did stay out of trouble for
one day, but nobody said anything about
the SECOND day. She was just too
curious, and her curiosity eventually got
the best of her.

During the second day safety class,
Poppy received news she had never, ever
heard before! The news: If she got
anywhere to near this thing called heat
energy, she would do something called
"melting"! Melting meant becoming a
liquid. And, if you got heated up enough,
you'd turn into a gas! Oh, what a
nightmare!

When you became a gas, your family
couldn't see you at all! You'd be
invisible! At least, if you were a liquid,
you could still live in the Freezer
Community...but if you were a gas,
you'd be stranded in the air, and you
can't be frozen into a solid immediately.
You would have to condense into a
cloud, and then become a liquid. Then
you would have to be frozen back again!

Poppy didn't know if her parents knew
about this terrible fate in which one's
molecules are damaged. What if they
didn't, and they evaporated into a gas?!
Did they really know, but hadn't told
her? Well, Poppy didn't know that
her parents were trying to protect her,
and had known about it all along. So, she
decided to go and tell them herself.

So Poppy did exactly what she was
going to do, she told her parents about
"melting". They weren't surprised. They
told her that it was true and that in order
for her to not melt, she should do exactly
what they told her. She took this very
seriously. The next day, she did
everything the teachers told her to do.
She even started to get A's and B's in the
Freezy Safety class!

But one day she was out with her
friends (at her first sleepover), and there
they decided that it was so boring in
Freezer town. A couple of hours later
they came up with a genius plan to take a
little adventure to Fridgeville. Being that
this was a year later, they had forgotten
everything they learned in the Freezy
Safety class.

So, later that night they headed outside
for their journey. As soon as they got out
of freezer town they started to feel hot.
An hour or so later they started to watch
each other drip! Eventually they realized
that they were melting and freaked out!
Later, they were completely melted into
little puddles of fruity juice. The people
of Fridgeville were very confused.
